MSI MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50 sRGB mode gamma is too bright - PS5 Pro

Basically what the title is. I have an Asus QD-OLED here that has beautiful sRGB, but I wanted to get the HDR benefits of the MSI. I'm testing them both out since the Asus is still within the return window. I primarily game on a PS5 Pro, but plan to use it with my PC a bit as well.

When I set the MSI to sRGB, it does clamp the colors and desaturates the image as expected, but the gamma is messed up and causes the image to look more washed out than it should. The monitor is NOT in HDR mode, I've double-checked the OSD and also forced the PS5 HDR to be off at all times. The sRGB mode should be amazing with this monitor, so I'm stumped as to what's going on with it. I'm not sure if the HDMI 2.1 mode has anything to do with it and will check tomorrow, but there is an option to switch from "PC" to "Console" and I've had it on Console. This is the only way you can get a 4K downsampled image, but I'm wondering if that is causing some sort of bandwidth issue that's making the sRGB look like [***CENSORED***]... which doesn't make much sense since the Display P3 mode is vibrant as hell and the gamma curve seems correct.

Maybe I just got a bad unit or something or maybe I need to update firmware. But if anyone has come across this and had the same issue, please let me know if you fixed it!

DCI-P3 vs sRGB: Which Color Gamut Is Best for Your Display in 2026?
  • sRGB (Standard Red Green Blue): The universal standard for the web and consumer electronics. Its narrower range ensures consistent visuals across diverse screens.
  • DCI-P3: A wide color gamut used in digital cinema and high-end devices like Apple products. It offers significantly richer reds and greens.
  • Adobe RGB: Designed for professional photography and print, offering an expanded gamut specifically in the green tones.
The visible spectrum coverage is smaller of sRGB than DCI-P3 so this symptom-washed out it normally under sRGB mode.
Visible Spectrum Coverage / sRGB: ~35%
Visible Spectrum Coverage / DCI-P3: ~45%

Having an incorrect gamma curve isn’t an sRGB vs a DCI-P3 problem, it’s a “this monitor” problem. There are no gamma adjustment options on this monitor and it’s clearly off in the sRGB mode unfortunately, with no way to adjust it.
