MSI MAG X670E is not accepting anything above 4800Mhz . It is not what I expected.

I could have made some pictures in between but I did not know that would be needed.
But my mb was running at 6000Mhz on default cpu settings and when trying it out, there was a huuge stutter each 5secs even in windows.

I investigated, I have read stuff on here, and it is very confusing to me how to get my performance.
I do not expect 6000mhz, its the max in perfect conditions.
But maxing out on 4800Mhz and cant even use the timings from EXPO is a bit of a joke to me.
Did I win the lottery?

This is just running at default now because my hair is gone already from trying something....
Running this Corsair ram kit. CMK32GX5M2B6000Z30 https://www.corsair.com/eu/en/p/mem...cl30-amd-expo-memory-black-cmk32gx5m2b6000z30

Motherboard is flashed at LTS. (I think this improved the default ram timings at least? )

LTS, as in, long-term support? For BIOS versions, the only differentiation is stable vs. beta. Since the beta versions talk of improved memory support, I would try with the latest beta.

I do have a MSI x670e Tomahawk that runs the RAM 2x Kingston KF560C30-16 at 6000 Mhz without any issue.
The EXPO profile is in use.
The processor is a Ryzen 9700x.

If the latest BIOS 7E12v1K7 does not help, can you provide the RAM sticker like below?
View attachment 208494
Latest bios does not help.
I have one game called Assetta corsa competizione I always use as my benchmark.
default 4800mhz works.
Anything above this is a completely unplayable.
FPS goes from 120 to minus 60 back up to 120 and so on. Every second.

This is my ram and how it has been placed.
Let me know if more info is needed.

That RAM kit is not on the QVL list for that board. You might be able to get it to run at a higher speed, but not with EXPO and probably not with raising voltages.

Aha, that explains. I never tought of looking that up.
Not a good time to replace the ram also. I guess I better keep it at 4800 just then.

I am running a similar 64gb corsair ram set as yours and spent a ton of time trying to get expo to work with the X670E Tomahawk, then switched to X870 Tomahawk and 9950X3D with the same ram and it was the same issue. I found this This Post and manually entered the same settings into the bios and it runs good at 6000 no problem.

I gave it a try, to be honest. went to wild on it directly to 6000 most likely but it did not even past the bios post testing.
I have let it go for more then an hour and it still wasn't booted.
Cleared CMOS and back to 4800Mhz sadly.
I don't even know if i loose a lot doing that. Note, I play simracing games on triple 2K screens so huge resolution gaming.

Hi enthusiasts, EXPO profiles alone are not working Default from Bios, just one click it will switch your first 5 primaries fabric timings only, in first Overclocking Main page Dram settings only, and leaves alone to AUTO all the rest of them, also in second Advanced Dram config Bios section aswell, so will you guys why do you not apply them manually from the early start debut memory timings setup, one by one, and leave alone EXPO OFF=Standard, don't need it.
Keep in mind, all timings they need properly inserted in both DDR Bios sections, Main Dram section and second Advanced / AMD Overclocking/ DDR Timings, pretty sure your Z30 sticks can do better 8000mhz GearOFF at least, in 2:1 scenario, uclk=mclk/2 if you like ;)
It's almost like same timings Profile just works with tossed CORSAIR old bin 7800c36 in too, maybe CL36 with these same setup timings, RTTs & stuff might work for you, good luck!

Do you mind sending me your bios changes. (pictures maybe)
Because I am reading your comment, you are hiping me up but nothing I can do yet.
I am sure I will mis 1, 2 or 100 settings I dont know but missing 1 setting is enough for it not too work.
So I wish I just had a simple screenshot of the bios from someone because also naming conventions are different etc.
It took me more then an hour yesterday waiting for just a post that never booted giving up after.

It is a big joke to me for it to be soo difficult for just having rams that work on the speed they say it does.
I think there is just a ridiculous little amount of people having their ram working as stated on the package.
Eg someone said QVL list and I know what that is indeed but just did not know how important that is.
But maybe I only have stupid people around me but if I take 20 friends having a gaming pc and ask them if they know what that is, they will never heard about that even.
I am a software developer so working with computers in general is ok for me but I never do anything in the bios so this is just an unknown field to me and I only do these timings because I have too.
But if certain fields are named different etc, I bump into a pandora box.

AND also, if I leave everything on default and do not touch the timings but put it on 6000Mhz, my pc is just a piece of [***CENSORED***] for gaming!
If I leave it on 4800Mhz it works good but I just dont have the full potential it said on paper. But I am not really convinced that setting the timings tight will make it work if does not even work with bad timings.....

Well, idk if my Bios screenshots will help you, it's a too deep drive elitist Overclocker profile for your skills, maybe another time.
Also dualchipset "E" mobo's are not as suitable for ocing 8400+GearOFF memory versus single's x870 or latest 850 2dimm ones.
Better you start with your fabric 6000+CL30 GearEnabled setup, see what's going on, i suspect your issues are coming from these settings being Enabled, so be sure to check them all Disabled
Ez Mode Main Page: Expo Standard
Expo : Disabled
Memory Context Restore: Disabled
Power Down Enable: Disabled

I simulated your timings on my second MSI rig with Tomahawk, and the BIOS options should match your Carbon as well :

Take your time, memory training issues are tricky, i spend months of time consuming and hundreds reboots so far, it may not work from day1, maybe you need both subtimings SCL's 5 instead of 4 if too tight and so, also SVM Disabled & Fastboot, Hyper V and Core Isolation Disabled may help, good luck!

So you're saying, anything above the default profile of DDR5-4800 is making games almost unplayable?

Can you check with LatencyMon if it shows high system latencies at higher RAM speeds? https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon
For some reason my powerplan was on balances instead of performance.
It made the msg disappear but tested in my game and fps still jumps around from 140 to 50fps on default 6000Mhz

CONCLUSION (full default 4800Mhz)
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Your system seems to be having difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 0:02:02 (h:mm:ss) on all processors.

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 141,70
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 12,154167

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 127,40
Average measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 2,772539

REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Process with highest pagefault count: systemsettings.exe

Total number of hard pagefaults 2708
Hard pagefault count of hardest hit process: 1456
Number of processes hit: 13

CONCLUSION (DEFAULT 6000Mhz No profiles)

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Your system seems to be having difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.

LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 0:05:13 (h:mm:ss) on all processors.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 947,30

Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 18,234710

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 940,0

Average measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 8,448712

REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Process with highest pagefault count: msmpeng.exe

Total number of hard pagefaults 3544

Hard pagefault count of hardest hit process: 1762

Number of processes hit: 34

1. Overclocking

Thank you very much for taking your time for this.

Sadly, the result is as bad as it was before.
There is no difference at all from what I see in my games.
My fps drops are very very big still :(
And I actually don't even need to check my games for this, if I grab some window and move it around fast I just see the movement getting stuck every X seconds.
Memtest running for 30minutes without any issue.
Novabench showing me random results between 5K and 7K+

If I leave everything on default (4800Mhz), my game is staying at 120FPS.
When i change only the speed to ANYTHING ABOVE 4800Mhz. My FPS is wacko even at 5000Mhz....
When I apply the timings provided here, its worse then default 6000Mhz but it does not matter since everything above 4800Mhz makes my system useless no matter what.
When I change it to 4800Mhz with these tighter timings, it is still useless....
The only thing working for me is complete default, I wish ram was not that expensive or I would already buy different ram set (from QVL list)

tighttimings.jpg

I made this video of my fps with these tight timings on 6000Mhz.

And this is 4800Mhz with the tight timings

And this is 4800Mhz with everything on default. THE ONLY THING THAT HAS BEEN WORKING FOR ME

I just have a feeling I am looking at a broken system but the problem is I don't even have a clue what is broken.....

I dont have any faith in the stability of my gaming pc this way.
I just wish I knew at least what is broken or making it so difficult.....

Putting hours into this is just not worth it for me and if I knew what, I might just replace what is holding it back (unless its the Ram because of some AI making it too expensive)

Try something like this, tRFC is too low for corsair ram

View attachment 208908
But even the default timings (no xmp or expo) on 6000Mhz does not work. And I assume the default is very loose.
But this default works perfect on 4800Mhz.
Should the default work on 6000Mhz?
For start my goal is ONLY GET SOMETHING STABLE ON 6000Mhz And I am not looking for anything tight yet unless only tight will work?????

Btw i appreciate the answer very much, its just that I don't understand why we are all trying to make it tight....
But I am trying what you have anyway. (maybe that is not tight? I dont even know)
If it works someday, I want to provide screenshots of my bios settings for future help.

EDIT:
Tried this one and its exactly the same problem..... but it does not surprise me at all since DEFAULT 6000Mhz DOES NOT WORK.
I also tried this on 4800Mhz and its very unstable.

We are making things worse instead of better.......
So please give me something very loose that will make my ram run stable at 6000Mhz
We can make it more tight after....

Now I have left everything on DEFAULT.
But did some very very small tweaks.

AND IT IS JUST UNSTABLE even on the 4800Mhz without even touching the timings........
But i did change that FCLK and UCLK Div1 Mode!!!!

VERY UNSTABLE
1768387902659.png

VERY STABLE
1768388373630.png

THE CHANGE FROM VERY UNSTABLE TO VERY STABLE (PROBLEM -> ONLY 4800Mhz STILL )
1768388561516.png

Lets play a game, find the differences???
I don't see much difference in zentimings besides the powerdown from disable to enable.

So I had to try this now.
I changed only FCLK freq and mode, (2000Mhz and MCLK1) -> STABLE

next on top of it
Disable Powerdown and geardown -> NOT EVEN BOOTING INTO WINDOWS BECAUSE ERROR ABOUT MEMORY MANAGEMENT.
1768390393734.png

TRYING TO RESET BIOS TO DEFAULT -> SYSTEM GETS COMPLETELY STUCK -> NEED TO SHORTCUT THE JUMPER FOR CMOS BIOS RESET...... -> reset done, we are making no improvements at all.....

Seems to me that the first problem is that you didn't get the ram off the QVL.. all this time you are spending on trying to fix something that isn't broken. If you really want to fix this buy ram on the QVL. If you can't afford it just run what you have at default. Believe me when I started building my own I was left with spare parts in my closet. I found that checking all parts with the motherboard I was buying to not only save me time but money.
