MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI: "A media driver your computer needs is missing" for Windows 11 Install

Hi all,

I'm building a new PC with the MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI motherboard and am trying to install Windows 11 from a bootable USB containing a Windows 11 Installation (by using Microsoft's latest Media Creation Tool). I keep getting "A media driver your computer needs is missing."

My system contains two M.2 drives, WD_BLACK SN850X (2TB) and WD_BLACK SN750 (1TB), installed in the M2_1 and M2_4 slots. Both of these alongside my CPU and RAM were verified to be compatible with this motherboard via the compatibility checker on MSI's website https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-X870-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/support#cpu. There seem to be many others online with similar issues when using M.2 drives. Both these drives do appear in BIOS so I don't think there is an issue with the motherboard recognizing them.

Other specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 C30 (in A2 and B2 slots)

A few things I've tried based on online suggestions from various sources:
- Tried a different USB ports for the bootable drive, including USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports;
- Tried a bootable USB with Windows 10 (also using Microsoft's latest Media Creation Tool) instead of 11;
- Tried the Windows 11 ISO with Rufus instead of using Media Creation Tool;
- Tried again (multiple times) with Media Creation Tool, in case files were missing or corrupted with one of the previous attempts;
- Tried switching the M.2 drives to different slots;
- Tried updating motherboard to latest BIOS (7E51v1A24) as well as one version earlier (7E51v1A2) after reading about recent issues some have had with USB on latest;
- Tried clearing CMOS as instructed to in the manual;
- Tried a Secure Erase from the BIOS;
- Tried changing boot mode from UEFI to CSM legacy + UEFI;
- Tried different USB flash drives (all USB 3.0 with 64GB);
- Tried installing AM4 RAID Driver (I know it's AM4, but apparently worked for others) within the Windows 11 Setup from a separate USB flash drive containing these latest NVME storage drivers for my motherboard from https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-X870-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/support#driver (under "On-board PIDE/SATA"). Attempting to install any of these yields the same message or occasionally something along the lines of "Error installing driver" (can't remember the exact error message, but was no more specific than that).

Important to note: the bootable USB containing the Windows 11 Installation were all prepared on another Windows PC, since some have reported issues when doing so on Mac or Linux.

Each of the above were performed in isolation of each other and did not fix this issue for me. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

I have a similar situation. In my case Pro X870-p wifi, AMD Ryzen 7 9700x.

I have 2 SATA SSDs and 1 M.2 in the main slot.

I can install Linux in one of the SSDs, see the other SSD and M.2, but I have no luck installing using the USB thumb drive of Windows 11.

Try another program to make the USB Stick. I do not suggest a program this is up to you.
But I use VenToy for my installation media and installed Windows 10, Windows 11 and a Linux. ;)

Which program do you use to make the stick?

Thank you but that story only seems to apply that no new updates would be received. For now the common issue seems to be unable to even install from the USB to begin with.

I tried both methods, downloading a regular ISO and dd into the stick and borrowing a friend's laptop, and using the media creation tool.
In both cases I am unable to install.

I tried using the regular ISO, downloaded on a Linux machine and used DD to generate the USB bootable drive.
I tried using a friend's WIndows Laptop, downloading the media creation tool and generating the USB bootable drive.
In both cases, it does not install.
Is there anything else I should be trying that I missed?

:ROFLMAO:
I tried to give you a subtle hint.
Try VenToy. You didn't say which distribution you use but it should be a regular package in most distributions.
Code:
yay ventoy
