Hi people

This morning I upgraded my BIOS from 1.8 to 1.9, I haven't been able to boot my PC whole day

PC fans are spinning, there is a white light on the CPU power plug (I guess that means all is fine)

I unplugged the external GPU, I even unplugged SATA SSD, and 1 RAM stick

* I haven't tried to remove the M2

The main problem is that I do not have video output now, I cleared CMOS and nothing

Also this motherboard (ITX version), seems has no option to reflash bios trough USB + jumper combination

This situation is quite annoying to me, I need the computer for work, this one, not another. (or well..., another with same specs)

Also... where is the CHK number on those motherboards? I see a white label on the motherboard but seems nothing of that is the CHK number

Do all of you use MSI Center to update BIOS?
I updated using USB + MFlash (as usual), since most of the time Im under Linux, altough have Windows in the M2 SSD PCIe 4.0 slot

I installed Linux in a SATA SSD and the truth is the computer stays more time UP under Linux than Windows, much more under Linux

yet I want the fastest speeds when I boot into Windows

Last update 1.8 I lost the boot on one of my partitions and needed to refresh the installation, clearing CMOs didnt solve anything

this time was just not booting, not even getting to BIOS menu, no video output

they already picked my motherboard, awaiting message/answer

probably the solution is as easy as reflash the bios with an external tool (as someone did in this same post)

I used Dragon Center, which bricked the MoBo.
I used USB Flash before, no Problem. Though I am 99% sure the Problem lies somewhere in the current BIOS version.

How did your installation go?
Mine was fine, 100%, reboot as expected, then CPU indicator, board = brick :(

Hi guys, just got the same issue this morning.

Tried to update bios from 1.6 to 1.9 via the Dragon Center and it just simply won't boot at all as what you guys experienced.....

Very frustrated as it's my working PC.

Same here, is my working PC and had been already 1 month without it. Motherboard had been at MSI for 3 weeks and I do not even have an estimated return day

Really disappointed with the issue[/QUOTE]

1 month wait is ridiculous.... I am an IT professional too and I feel I am really in trouble now. Interestingly you had this issue back in July and I can't believe MSI still leaves this problematic BIOS available on the web.

By the way, did you send the ticket to MSI directly or via your retailer? I am based in Melbourne and I feel it's going to be a tedious process....sigh.....

trough my retailer, I phoned MSI and they told me warranty needed to be managed trough my retailer

9 July I reported to my retailer

15 July GLS express 24h service took motherboard from my home to MSI

still waiting... latest time I contacted they told me MSI told them they are working on it

no estimate resolution date

it is a really bad experience, this week would be 1 month since GLS express got my motherboard, and 1 month + 1 week since I reportes to my retailer

I find it non acceptable

That's crazy.... Do you mind share which area or country you are based in?

I feel they should at least send a replacement unit first once they identify it's their fault, rather than let the customer wait for months without a PC.

I will see how MSI AU deal with my case next week, hope they can give me an acceptable solution.

I live in Spain

Yes, please. Tell what solution they give to you

Check this it is the delay for international shipping from Australia at the moment it is over 4 weeks or just not accepting deliveries from AU

It's a special tool to re-flash the SPI Flash. On MSI MB, we can connect this tool to JSPI1/JTPM1 header to reflash the BIOS.

For Z490I Unify, MSI uses the W25Q64FV to store the BIOS: W25Q64FV - - (winbond.com)

But it's better if you send the failed MB to MSI then they can use their own tool to reflash.

My Z490i Unify was bricked today after upgrade Bios with Dragon center. I prefer fixing by myself to send back MSI because of Covid Delay and it's also my main PC.
After hours Googling, reflash the Bios is the best solution for me. But from another thread (https://www.win-raid.com/t9118f16-Cannot-find-the-BIOS-Chip-position-of-z-i-unify.html) it's is said that z490i unify do not have jspi1 header. I am so confused because you said "connect this tool to JSPI1/JTPM1 header". We can use JTPM1 as JSPI1 on z490i Unify, right?
Could you share which progammer you used? CH341A USB Programmer or FlashcatUSB?
I found this product on Aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32837013205.html
Is it the same as yours?
