I have this old laptop that hasn't been used in about aa year. Last time it was used something happened in the partition and now I cannot boot it up. Over the past year I have tried several things, but with no success. I decided to try to bring this back to life by putting in a SSD in place of the HDD. I bought a HP S750 SSD 2.5. I have an original Windows 7 installation disc. I thought I could just change the HDD to the SSD and install from the Windows 7 disc. But I get no disc recognized.
What should I do here to get this old laptop working again?

Which SSD is it? S750 tells me the model, but how large is it?
Have you tested the SSD in another PC?
Which disc isn't recognized? The Windows 7 install disc? Or the SSD?

The S750 is a 512gb SSD. The HDD that one is to replace is a 500gb. The SSD is not recognized by my laptop or my PC. Does this SSD need to be formated before it can be used. I could not find that in the limited documentation that came with the SSD. If I need to format, can it be did fine on my PC and then used on the laptop?... Since I cannot log into the laptop? Thanks for your reply.
 
Try updating your laptop bios. It should be visible in laptop or desktop bios if it's recognized.
On a desktop you need to initialize it and format in disk management.
When installing os from scratch it doesent matter is disk initialized or not.

So you're saying that the BIOS can't recognize the SSD? or what? You're not really being descriptive enough to help.

Do I need to be able to log into my laptop to access the BIOS? I guess I need a "How to" to know how to get to my BIOS. And you are saying I need to update the BIOS to possibly make the SSD recognized?

Correct.
@ first check, is it recognized in bios.

I believe win 7 install dvd does not have ahci drivers as well, you need to build installation media with those drivers. As well, you can clone your old drive using desktop pc.

Thanks for the help. I got into the bios and did a reset. This eventually allowed me to get into Windows using the HDD. The laptop logs in strangely. When started from being shut down, it doesn't boot up. I used the snooze key, off then on, before it will go. I updated my internet connection and updated Chrome browser. Things seem to be working except for the strange start up. any ideas on this? I need to get a SATA connection to try to clone the new SSD.

i thought that I would try to rectify the boot up issue before I cloned the HDD and tried to install the new SDD. I reading several posts on this boot issue I finally went into Task Manager and found that Hibernate could be turned off. After turning it off I rebooted. But the boot process still stops and it goes into a sleep mode. But now, since I have turned off Hibernate, I cannot complete the boot process. Is there a way to get into task Manager to change my settings back to where they were?
 
I wouldn't even bother cloning at this point. Reinstall and ignore the old OS. Clearly it has problems.
 
So I put in the new SSD. Tried to boot up with the original boot disc on Windows 7 as that is what I have. It takes me to the Windows 7 start screen. I get a couple of prompts and than it says "Where do you want to install Windows?" At the bottom of the screen the messages says No drives were found. Click drivers... But I don't have drivers. What do I need to do to get this new SSD working wiht a Fresh Windows 7?
