I purchased this monitor last week from Amazon as it was a good price with 10% off (£539 instead of the £899 it launched at in the UK) and one of the reasons I opted for this model was for the AI motion sensor. I am very happy with the screen itself but have found the AI sensor to be frustrating to say the least.
Initally the sensor seemed to be working with the default firmware (I think it was FW017) but I had to turn off the screen dimming option as the monitor would randomly dim the screen even though I was sat right in front of it. The monitor would also randomly turn off even though I was sat in front of it. In the end I switched from Monitor to System and enabled it in Windows which seemed to stop random dimming and screen turning off but then I found that was because it wasn't actually working at all!!! I tested this by walking out of the room and waiting for far longer than the 10 seconds it was set to for turning off the screen only to find the screen was still on.
I then found out there was a firmware update FW020 so updated to that using the Gaming Intelligence software (which has its own set of issues and bugs too but that's another thread!) and found that now the sensor does not appear to work at all.
Admittedly, I use my monitor in a dark room as this is the ideal lighting for a QD-OLED monitor than can otherwise look greyish/purplish when viewed in daylight. However, the LED on this thing is so bright that it lights up the area directly in front of me anyway plus I have lots of other ambient lights in the room so it isn't completely dark. Even when I turn the light on, the monitor fails to detect when I leave the room in either Monitor or System mode.
To say I'm disappointed is a huge understatement as I bought this display to avoid the need to either turn off the screen manually or use a Blank screensaver when I step away from my desk. However, the reality is that I still need to do these things because the sensor just does not work reliably.
I assume that the AI sensor has no inkling of what is being displayed on the screen so, for example, if I am playing a game or watching a YouTube video in Microsoft Edge then it should still turn off the screen when I leave the room and then turn back on when I enter and sit back in front of it?
Would resetting the monitor to Factory defaults help, do you think?
P.S. Just a random thought... maybe the sensor doesn't work but it thinks I do not look human enough...?
