Hi,

I've got a problem with my motherboard. I bought a MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus and put a Ryzen 3500X on it. The motherboard start, fans are spinning but the DRAM led stays on. I tried with one or two sticks of DDR4, testing all slots with at least two differents brands without any changes. I also tried with a Ryzen 5600T but this time, the is the CPU led which stays on.
I thought it should be a BIOS issue, with a very old release, before 5600T was on the market.
So, I figure to update the BIOS with a USB key. I follow all the rules ans then put the key in the dedicated hole but when I pressed the special button, nothing happen. A red light should be flashing and the power supply shoud start. I've got nothing of this

Is there something else I should try before throwing it in the trash ?

I take it you are using the Flash BIOS procedure (with the BIOS file renamed to MSI.ROM). This procedure is very picky about which USB sticks it accepts. It is time to round up as many USB sticks as you can from family and friends and try them one by one.

If the light flashes less than a minute or longer than 10 minutes the flashing was not successful and you should try another USB stick.

Did you rename the file as MSI.ROM?
Make sure you have allowed system to show File extension name by selecting it inside the "view" tab in Windows explorer before renaming, or you would had renamed it wrong as "MSI.ROM.xxx" instead of simply "MSI.ROM".

Some directions for you

FOR BIOS FLASHBACK

The following Directions are for Windows-based OS

Right, Click on the Downloaded Bios Zip File, and select properties if you see the message this file is blocked by Windows tick the box to unblock and click OK.

When in Windows File Explorer, select the View tab and Tick the box Show Hidden Files and File Name Extensions.

Extract the BIOS file from the Downloaded ZIP file Open the folder it was extracted to.

Right-click on the BIOS file, select copy and then paste it into a 32GB or smaller USB drive Formatted to FAT32.

When in Windows File Explorer, select the View Tab and Tick the box Show Hidden Files and File Name Extension.

Now rename the BIOS file to MSI.ROM

There should be no other files or folders on the USB drive, just the BIOS file you have renamed to MSI.ROM

FlashBack can be used on a fully assembled PC even if the CPU is one of the new 5xxx series.

PC must be turned off for BIOS Flashback to be started do not turn on your PC the Bios Flashback will do it for you

Plug the USB Drive into the USB port just below the Bios Button,

Do not touch any Jumpers on the Motherboard

Push the FlashBack button and then release it,

About 5 seconds later a led just above the USB port will start to flash, after 15 seconds or so the speed of the flashing light will double this is the writing to the BIOS period.

Once done writing to the BIOS it will stop flashing and PSU will turn off

For 16MB BIOS, it will take about 4 to 5 minutes and flashing stops.

32MB BIOS will take 6 to 7 minutes and flashing stops.

People have said that it may turn back on if so just turn it off and unplug the PSU.

@ericj159802e9 : I used the same key that I used before to flash my own MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus. The problem is that the light is not event flashing after pushing the button.

@Goodspeed : Yes, the official flashing rules were followed step by step, including the correct file renaming
The Flash BIOS procedure is notoriously picky of what USB sticks it will work with. In practice you will have to try multiple ones until you find one that works. I have seen reports of people who had to try 5 or 6 different ones to find one that would work. The Flash BIOS procedure is very mirky territory.
