MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI - PCIe slot no longer works after BIOS update

Hi,

At the launch of AM5 I purchased an MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI for myself along with a Ryzen 7 7700X and 2x 32 GB DDR5-5600 RAM. For the first few months it has been running pretty smoothly with no major issues.

However last weekend I decided to update the BIOS to the latest version (7D70v12) and while it offers some nice quality-of-life improvements, it did also introduce one major issue for me. In PCIe slots 2 and 3, I have installed two capture cards: an Elgato Game Capture 4K60 Pro MK.2 and an Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro, respectively. I use these side-by-side for different purposes. After the BIOS update, the HD60 Pro capture card in the PCI_E3 slot from the Chipset is no longer being detected by Windows. There are no errors, no unknown devices in Device Manager, it's like the card isn't there at all.

I've already tried various things: updating drivers for the motherboard including the Chipset drivers, installing the latest drivers and software for the capture cards, updating Windows 10 to the latest version and installing all optional updates. I also reset the BIOS settings to the defaults and checked with that. None of those things solved the problem. At this point I'm very sure it's not a software or settings problem.

To eliminate the possibility of a failure with the capture card itself, I also swapped around the cards around so that the HD60 Pro is in the PCI_E2 slot. And sure enough: now the HD60 Pro is being detected again while the 4K60 Pro card is no longer visible in Windows. So I'm very certain that the problem is with the PCI_E3 slot (the only slot to come from the Chipset and not from the CPU) and it cannot be a coincidence that the problem appeared immediately after updating the BIOS. My guess is that this BIOS version introduced a bug in the Chipset firmware that causes the attached PCIe slot to fail initialization.

I would like to downgrade the BIOS again to the version that came preinstalled on the motherboard (version 110) just to see if that solves the problem, but that version does not appear to be available for download anywhere.

P.S.: I also noticed that after the BIOS update, the Sleep option disappeared in Windows. This bug is already covered and acknowledged in a different thread on this forum and I've confirmed that disabling A-XMP in the BIOS makes the Sleep option reappear, so this seems to be unrelated to my PCIe slot issue described above.

Well we kind of know that but not up to us is up to MSI
we ask for changes but not often it will happen.
After all non of us, Moderators work for MSI but just end users helping ou in the forums
No Time frame when a new Bios will be out as well? But at your soonest convince will need the 1.10. Thank you.

Could I please get the link to bios 1.10? Having issues with the graphics card displaying anything right after NVIDIA drivers are installed.

MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI

G.SKILL DDR5 6000Mhz CL32 32Gb
MSI RTX 4090 SUPRIM X

Windows 11 Pro

well for my use case going down to 1.10 didn't work for me still having same problem with my devices turning on than off. Won't work connecting Reverb G2, wont work with with my flight stick from virpil or throttle. I tried a usb thumb drive in the USB expansion card and nothing. For whatever reason PCI-E3 isnt working right even with the downgrade. So switched out the 7 port usb for the 4 port Febsmart and the Febsmart usb pci expansion card works now works with the bios downgrade while SINEFINE PCI-E to USB 3.0 still has the same issue.. So seems to be related to certain hardware

Doesn't explain why a simple thumb drive won't work either.. I tried using the same 7 port in the pci_e2 port and it powered all my peripherals fine on 110 and newest bios.. only the bottom pci-e3 doesn't work work right. 110 was too unstable and was crashing and blue screening in applications. So it's clearly a bios issue but some hardware reacts differently as well in the 110 bios some pcie expansion cards work and others don't work. So going back to 110 won't be a fix for everyone it seems. In the newest bios neither pcie expansion cards will work in the last pci-e3 slot

All I can do is kick info in a certain direction so the correct people become aware of the problem and hopefully supply a fix.

Please list your full build
I will pass on the info
Sorry for the delay. I had to return the other PCIE USB card as it did not work for my needs.
BIOS 1.32 did not work.

Both cards were tested with and without the additional power connector connected.
Test Results with : Acomdata USB PCI Express ADPU3-PCIX - Please note: I no longer have this card to test against. This card had LED that was lit during all tests so card received power from PCIE bus even when not working (without power cable connected).

Thank you for the update this is kind of info that can help the MSI track down faults.

Bios 1.3 appeared for the MEG X670E ACE board. Is anything known about the new bios for the MPG X670E CARBON WIFI.
Well not really but it is not a new version still 1.0.0.3

Description of the "update" for the ACE motherboard :
- Reduce boot time - Improve system stability.

Why not release it for the Carbon as well ?

It is not really a bios update just a slight change to the boot behaviour of the current bios version.
No one has reported PCIE not working problems with the Ace, The carbon bios due to the PCIE problem will need way more testing to make sure it is fixed as it is only with some PCIE devices.

Yep lets hope it has fixed the problem

Have DM all users who requested BIOS
If I missed ya sorry
