Hi,

At the launch of AM5 I purchased an MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI for myself along with a Ryzen 7 7700X and 2x 32 GB DDR5-5600 RAM. For the first few months it has been running pretty smoothly with no major issues.

However last weekend I decided to update the BIOS to the latest version (7D70v12) and while it offers some nice quality-of-life improvements, it did also introduce one major issue for me. In PCIe slots 2 and 3, I have installed two capture cards: an Elgato Game Capture 4K60 Pro MK.2 and an Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro, respectively. I use these side-by-side for different purposes. After the BIOS update, the HD60 Pro capture card in the PCI_E3 slot from the Chipset is no longer being detected by Windows. There are no errors, no unknown devices in Device Manager, it's like the card isn't there at all.

I've already tried various things: updating drivers for the motherboard including the Chipset drivers, installing the latest drivers and software for the capture cards, updating Windows 10 to the latest version and installing all optional updates. I also reset the BIOS settings to the defaults and checked with that. None of those things solved the problem. At this point I'm very sure it's not a software or settings problem.

To eliminate the possibility of a failure with the capture card itself, I also swapped around the cards around so that the HD60 Pro is in the PCI_E2 slot. And sure enough: now the HD60 Pro is being detected again while the 4K60 Pro card is no longer visible in Windows. So I'm very certain that the problem is with the PCI_E3 slot (the only slot to come from the Chipset and not from the CPU) and it cannot be a coincidence that the problem appeared immediately after updating the BIOS. My guess is that this BIOS version introduced a bug in the Chipset firmware that causes the attached PCIe slot to fail initialization.

I would like to downgrade the BIOS again to the version that came preinstalled on the motherboard (version 110) just to see if that solves the problem, but that version does not appear to be available for download anywhere.

P.S.: I also noticed that after the BIOS update, the Sleep option disappeared in Windows. This bug is already covered and acknowledged in a different thread on this forum and I've confirmed that disabling A-XMP in the BIOS makes the Sleep option reappear, so this seems to be unrelated to my PCIe slot issue described above.

I updated to V1.41 just now and everything seems to be working for me. The upgrade was a bit painful - I had to power cycle my PC to get it to actually boot after the update, and on the first Windows startup it spontaneously rebooted, but after another power cycle it started up properly and things are looking stable now with XMP enabled in the BIOS.

The good news is that both of my capture cards are now working properly again too! The HD60 Pro in slot PCI_E3 is being regarded by Windows as a different device from before, so I had to reconfigure some applications that make use of it, but other than that it is working as expected.

Well, this saga has taken a turn yet again. This morning I booted up my PC, tweaked a few PBO settings that I hadn't done yet yesterday, and now all of a sudden the capture card in PCI_E3 has disappeared again. I set the PBO values back to "Auto" to see if that might fix it but no, the capture card is still gone. So after having things work again for one day after installing BIOS V1.41, now with a cold boot we're back to square one again. Unfortunately it looks like the problem hasn't been solved yet :(

Do you have compatible memory sticks from the MSI list?
Do compatible memories guarantee proper computer operation?

I'll have one tomorrow and I'll write if the computer works ok.

Update on Power Down mode

OK so have heard back with some info
The Sleep function not working with ram over 5600 will be fixed in a Future Bios update no ETA
PCI-E Device's missing bug is still under investigation.
Power down mode setting can be a bit flaky AMD is yet to fix this problem so please be aware of the following
This problem is Vender wide
So please check the Power-down mode setting
If Power Down mode is Disabled when XMP is off you may get BSOD so make sure if not using XMP it is set to Enabled
If XMP is set to enabled Power down should show as AUTO or Disabled to improve performance.
The Debug Code if it hangs at A6 may be bypassed by spamming the F1 key
MSI is actively running an investigation into these problems
But I will need info I can pass on to them Please provide Full system builds and Pick of Memory stickers
A CPU_Z validation Profile will also assist to some extent.

Sorry, maybe I'm wrong, today, the rgb is OK.

the main problem is memory self checking always happen every booting.

Followup on my observations from the last few days with BIOS V1.41:

It appears that slot PCI_E3 is intermittently working and then not working, and only a full cold boot makes any difference to determine whether it works or not.

As I mentioned yesterday, when I started my PC in the morning, the capture card in PCI_E3 was again not being detected anymore.
After rebooting into the BIOS, loading optimized defaults, enabling only A-XMP and rebooting into Windows again, the PCI_E3 card was still not working.
Then I powered down the PC entirely and started it up again. Now the PCI_E3 card was being detected.
From that situation, I rebooted from Windows back into Windows, and the PCI_E3 card was still working.
Then I rebooted into the BIOS, set my preferred PBO settings and rebooted into Windows. The PCI_E3 card was still working.

This morning I started up my PC from powered down state, and once again the PCI_E3 card was *not* being detected.
Just now I powered it down and started the PC back up again, now the PCI_E3 card *is* being detected.

So in conclusion, it's quite random whether the PCI_E3 card is being detected or not. Changing BIOS settings or rebooting don't make any difference. Only a full cold boot does. It's possible that this behavior existed before with older BIOS revisions but I simply did not notice it. It does make sense that I first noticed it on V1.41, as I had to power down and cold boot the PC a few times to make that BIOS update work properly.

Do you have Windows Fast Start Up enabled in Windows Power setting if so can you Disable it

As far as I'm aware it's disabled. When I open the control panel for "Choose what the power settings do", the Fast Startup option does not appear at all. This is probably because I have fully disabled Hibernation mode via the command line (powercfg /h off) and these latest BIOS updates disable Sleep mode when XMP is enabled. When I shut down my PC, it powers off completely.

Should be there under chose what Power buttons do
It is normaly locked till you unlock it
You should all ways be able to see the options even with sleep and hibernate disabled
