MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi stuck in Post with every BIOS after 7E49v1A3

Hello everyone

After updating the BIOS to version 7E49v1A33 or the new 7E49v1A4 my system gets stuck in post from a cold boot. It doesn't matter if I enable EXPO or not. Everything else on standard and no overclocking at all.
The LED says Error Code "4d".

Maybe someone else here has another idea. I am beginning to suspect that it is due to the new AGESA PI-1.2.0.3c version.
With BIOS 7E49v1A3 the system runs completely stable and fast, but I would like to have the latest BIOS version because of the new AGESA version and the corresponding security patches.

Thank you in advance.

My Hardware:
  • Board: MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi
  • CPU: 9950x3D
  • RAM: 2x32 G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB
  • GPU: GB 4090
  • M2: 1TB WD SN850x, 2x 4TB WD SN850x
What I tried:
  • Clear CMOS
  • Spread Spectrum auto --> on --> off --> back to auto
  • LEDs of
  • only one M2 SSD
  • different M2 Slot

Stay on the older BIOS

Most of the security patches lately don't really affect normal users, just mainly Corporate.
And if they are trying to bust into your System, then they already have your PC in their grubby hands, as for most of the latest exploits they need to have hands on the PC to make them work.

Thanks for your reply. That's exactly what I'm going to do. But maybe someone here has a solution that I haven't found and it's “just” a settings thing.

I just have a little hope that someone with a connection to MSI or even MSI itself will “read along” or be made aware of the problems and at some point in a future version, everything will run smoothly again.

The mentioned updates are garbage. Similar config, but memory training almost every single boot or reboot. Its a joke...
With every update complete reset of the system including secure boot data (awesome job....) saved profiles, fan curves, etc. 7E49v1A27 did not have a single issue. Now I guess I'm lucky that I did not go with bios raid as probably that would screw up as well.

I have the exactly same rig with you but not facing any issues
  • Board: MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi
  • CPU: 9950x3D
  • RAM: 2x32 G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB (same with mine with CL28)
Code 4D = "Memory initialization error during early POST. Memory training failed."
I was enabled EXPO profile, latency killer enabled, memory timing preset - tightest. I never facing this problem.
Currently I am using the latest BIOS version 7E49v1A4, everything working fine for me. Usually have no issue with cold boot, just sometimes may stuck at "0D" during restart PC because it was causing by monitoring software - AIDA64 or HWInfo.

Hi.

I really don’t think it’s a general problem. I suspect there is something off with my hardware.
I’m now in talks with the store I bought it from what I should replace. Board and/or CPU.

I will keep this thread updated.

X870E owner here can confirm, 7E49v1A4 2025-05-16 update is buggy and gives me BSODs. I've had higher cpu (9950X3D) temps despite setting the same settings as before. The last known good bios for me is 7E49v1A33.

Small update:

AMD tested the 9950x3d (according to the status page) and today they gave me my money back in full. Unfortunately they couldn't/wouldn't tell me if or what was wrong with the CPU.

MSI has received the board, but so far no reaction.

Next update:

The motherboard came back today, supposedly repaired. Unfortunately, almost all the accessories are missing (no WLAN antenna, no cables, only the stickers and the USB stick are included).
But the biggest annoyance is that all the SSD coolers are missing. Both the small one at the top and the large aluminum one at the bottom.

Unfortunately, I can't (don't want to) test whether everything works.
