Msi nightblade MI2 Upgrade to a gtx 1080

Hello everyone 

I have a question here I want to upgrade my Nightblade MI2 to a GTX 1080 but the power supply is only 350W I will  like to know if I gonna need a ITX or a SFX power supply, for the ITX I cant find many options and I want  a 500W one

Well, the 350w psu is totally and absolutely inadequate to run a GTX 1080. If it will able to run the GTX 1080 under load now at all it will at least not last long. As you are running it far beyond it's abilities.

A system with a GTX 1080 takes fully usable 30A on +12v and a 550W PSU minimum

I've had the PC for nearly a year and have experienced no bottle necking with the GTX 1080 or CPU, an i7 6700k because of the 350W PSU but am very concerned now that over the long run something IS going to happen to it.   I have read in so many other posts from moderators that a 500W PSU is recommended. To top it all off, MSI support has told me there are no possible upgrade options for my 350W PSU.  Why would they include a GTX 1080 with a 350W PSU if they knew it was completely inadequate? This is the response I received from CUK support in regard to the stability of a 350W PSU with a GTX 1080; "Unfortunately I cannot advise on this situation. MSI Nightblade MI2 is a very specific design that really doesn't allow too many modifications. I can say that we have tested these units (MI2 and MI3) and they are able to run the GTX 1080 and a 6700K full tilt with no bottle necking. I have checked on a number of user forms and found that people have had moderate success upgrading their PSU to a higher wattage (450W I believe) but unfortunately the case design does not allow much larger."

I told you about the needs for running this card. What anyone told or said or what is possible with Nightblade machines does not matter. What is important is that in the long run the psu will die earlier for sure as you are running it far beyond it's abilities. For a short time or brief testing maybe even regular use for some time it might run fine but it will certainly change. If you are unlucky a bad psu might also take other components with it.

@flobelix Am I out of options when it comes to trying to upgrade my PSU because the tower model is too small for one, or is it possible to transfer the components to a bigger tower with a higher wattage PSU?...Or am I S.O.L. and doomed to lose a good chunk of money because of planned obsolescence?
