So I have six GB of ddr3 memory installed on my core I7 930.

I'd just gotten off the phone with MSI they told me it was a memory problem as i had 1333 ram, it was meant to be oc'd and i need to do that if i want it to work rite.

the whole reason i called msi in the first place was because my computer will randomly give me a black screen where i have to force a hard reset. or a gray screen with vertical lines going down i.

so my question to you the MSI community is:

where can i learn to OC my mem on a x58 pro-e motherboard?

also what do you think is the problem ?

p.s its not the video card i tested it on another pc :)

also it is not an OS problem Ive tried multiple OS , EX Ubuntu , windows vista , windows 7 and even xp

PC SPEC"S

Intel core I7 930
6GB 1333 kingston memory
ATI HD 5750 1GB Video card
800wat psu
2x 1TB HDD
2x 24in lg displays

Thank you

Do you have the CPUID utility CPU-Z? We need to know the information off the Memory Tab & SPD Tab. Posting a screenshot of both would be even better. Adjustments are made in the bios 'Cell Menu'. Disable 'Spread Spectrum' for a start.

I didn't shrink it msi forums did so here is the link to full size pic

You came to the right place. SPD is very interesting for the RAM indeed. I would give this a try, change 'Memory Ratio' from 'Auto' to 5, 'Uncore Ratio' to 10, in 'Advance DRAM Configuration' set 9 9 9 24, try it with CR set to 1T(N), 'DRAM Voltage' to 1.60v's - 1.65v's, (no higher than 1.65v's). If this doesn't work, we would have to work on reducing the speed to 1066 which is the native speed for the i7 930 IMC.

welp i did everything except this,,,, and i quote "Advance DRAM Configuration' set 9 9 9 24, try it with CR set to 1T(N)" and i don't see that .... i did update my bios to the latest so I am just a lil confused with that????

I'd be more inclined to set the CR set to 2T(2N) with Intel.

It supposed to be in the Cell Menu just under Memory-Z and above Memory Ratio.

this is what i see ok

KK will keep you posted and thank you all 4 the help........ i just set it to 2n and havent had the prob yet but will let you know when it dose :)

I'd like to pass on my final solution to all my x58 Pro-E problems, and I suggest you try it.

Keep your ram as close to 1066mhz as you can. This solved my random bluescreens, as well as detecting all my ram every boot/reboot etc. My computer is not for benchmarking, just homework and gaming.

Another good thing about this is that you can tone down voltage settings across the board. = less heat

Very true of the P55's & some other Intel chipsets, but not my experience with the X58. Every rig I've built for myself or family & friends performed perfectly setting CR 1N(T). This was using Corsair brand exclusively.
