I purchased this GPU over a year ago and was only made aware of the active MSI Community just recently.

I would like to share my experiences with unboxing the MSI R9 290 Gaming 4G OC since it was a very good experience. Unboxing the GPU was a pleasure. The packaging was clean and offered a good description of the product inside. Of similar importance, the box was easy to get into, without any unnecessary obstructions like multiple tabs, clips, plastic casing, etc. Upon opening it, I was greeted by the awesome looking red and black design of the MSI Gaming series. The GPU lay nestled in the thick foam and I was confident that even with any less-than-gentle-shipping, the GPU would be delivered unscathed.

There was not much else in the box aside from the requisite documentation, driver discs, gaming paraphernalia, etc. This was fine with me. I, like many other people, use a display that is supported by this card, i.e. either an HDMI display, Display Port display, or DVI display. I currently have this GPU installed in a computer that is hooked up to my living room HDTV but also use a smaller DVI monitor when I am "diagnosing issues" with the computer. The up-close-and-personal feel of the monitor allows for better workflows, while the large TV offers great gaming experiences, and all powered by this GPU.

The GPU itself is beautifully constructed. All ports and connectors were covered by plastic caps to protect the card in transit, which is a welcome feature. Installation was a breeze, almost plug-and-play. I do not have an optical drive in my computer but I was able to download the necessary drivers and apps from the appropriate sites.

I have been utterly amazed with its performance. I was able to overclock it to 1160/1500. Core temps stay below 85C and VRM temps stay below 75C. I am able to achieve a locked 60fps in The Witcher 3 on Ultra (Hairworks on 4x AA), 60FPS in Far Cry 4 on Ultra, even with all the Gameworks features. Skyrim and Skyrim Special Edition are walks in the park for this card.

Overall, this has been a great experience!
