1.Power:
Power adapter is 330W and cannot more.
If 1080 and 2070, it is need 450W.
No power adapter is over 350W.

2.Space / Thermal and heat:
It is around 90 degree.
No space for bigger Thermal so if If 1080 and 2070, it is will be over 100degree and shut down automatically. (Protection mechanism by CPU)

I could not get more out of the GPU because the PC will have a power cut-off with higher power and clock settings. The reason could be motherboard power limit as mentioned by other users or the PSU. I have ordered a 330w adapter from eBay and I'll update my post after I test it out.

Hi, Any result with this new 330w adapter ?

Please check second floor again.
If this system/motherboard is for 230W for shipping:
It has protection mechanism on motherboard so max is just 230W for motherboard.

MSI has 5 models for Trident-3 and all are different.
Trident 3 / Trident 3Arctic / Trident 3 camo Squad / Trident 3 8TH / Trident 3Arctic 8TH

Please provide some information as below to us for this system you used:
1. Serial number on the back cover and on the box.
It is SOP how to check it as below link:
http://www.msi.com/page/warranty
2. The number:9S6-xxxx-xxx that you can find it on the box.

What version do you have? You can plug the 8 pins connector to 6 pins input leaving the extra 2 pins disconnected.
Also just an update I just swap out the internal 1Tb HGST HDD to 2Tb WD Blue SSD.

My amazon review for GFX card upgrade is at below link:

You can upgrade your HDD7200 to SSD without problem. I upgrade to 2TB WD Blue SSD. As for the graphic cards, as you are limited by the power supply, the best card you can get now that fit the power requirement would be GTX 1660 Ti. Also, GTX 1660 Ti is slightly faster than GTX 1070. Just wait for an ITX size card. Keep a lookout for MSI Aero ITX or Gigabyte Mini ITX.

I successfully added the following to my 8th Gen Trident 3 with 230 watt power supply:

  • GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GV-N166TIXOC-6GD
  • Crucial 16GB DDR4 2666MHz DRAM SODIMM (260-pin) CT16G4SFD8266
  • 6-pin female to 8-pin male PCIe power cable

Make sure the GPU has a TDP of 120 watts or less and is no longer than 170mm.

I can confirm that a Gigabyte 1660 Ti works great! I can play Resident Evil 2 at 4K!

Hi,

I'm not the most technical savvy, but I have an MSI Trident series VR7RC-020US that I want to upgrade the graphics card. I was thinking of buying and installing the GTX 1660 6GB (mini ITX). Can my system handle this graphics card (from a power consumption standpoint / physical space slot allowance), and do I have to remove the existing card or can I use the expansion slot to load the 1660 in?

Thanks

Hi
Recently i have view a lot posts and try to upgrade my GPU in trident3.

  Originally was I7 7700+GTX1060 3G  230w power supply, i upgrade it to GTX1070 ITX

When 1070 works at 230w supply my desktop and auto shut down and restart as GPU loads heavily for a while.

I think it is power problem so i bought a delta 330W power adpter and see whats going on but it get auto shut down too.

Is it because of motherboard blocked power supply to 230W limited? if so why there are so many success case in China where people just replace a 1070 even 1080 and a bigger power supply which their trident3 works perfectly?

Hello guys i have a trident 8th, with i5 8400 cpu
its good in all aspects but recently i have some CAD work so i though investing in a i7 8700 will get me better render times and some more fps in gaming.
I swapped the cpu and the 8700 gets 90's even in PUBG i get crazy temps like 92 degrees on some spots and stays between 75-85.
Is there a way to enhance the cpu cooler or install an aftermarket one that helps?
You can email me on

Thanks, I updated to that graphics card and works like a charm :)
