I have Powercolor 6800XT Red Devil, Ryzen 5900x, 2x16 4000 CL16 and only 2 sata drives, no NVMEs. Whatever I tried, I couldn't able to post my gpu with Gen4 x16 speeds, it only posts at gen3 x16. I tried different bioses but without success. How can I post at Gen4 x16?

Change Bios setting to Gen 4 like in this pick of the bios page

Also Enable Data Link Feature Exchange

Check if enabled with CPU-Z or GPU-Z

I have the settings same as you mentioned but still getting PCIE 3 @ x16;

In aida64 it says PCIE 4.0 @ x16 but I did a 3dMark PCI Express Feature test and get 14.2 GB/S which seems like it is running at PCIE 3 @ x16.

I have exactly the same issue, on the same board, but using a 5700XT. Thinking about RMA but that would suck because I use it for work.

I've tried so many things, as you did I also removed everything I could and it still did it.

It will actually boot with PCIE Gen 4 like 1 in 30 attempts, and it runs flawlessly in that time also, no crashes or weird issues. It's JUST a boot issue.

This smells like a BIOS issue, another reason why I'm reluctant to RMA it.

The good news: It doesn't matter in games, because the difference between the PCIe interface speeds is not relevant once the textures have been loaded into the onboard graphics memory.

PCIe 3.0 x16 (which is equivalent to PCIe 4.0 x8) is maaaaybe 1% slower than PCIe 4.0 x16. Only if a game on the highest graphics setting runs into a severe onboard graphics memory size limitation, then you would observe a bigger difference, but then the game would run quite slowly no matter what.

Even going down to PCIe 3.0 x8 (so, half the bandwidth again) would only cost roundabout 2% performance in games, see https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-radeon-rx-6600-xt-pci-express-scaling/28.html

So all in all, you can chill and wait for a BIOS update which fixes this. I would not RMA the board over this at all.

I agree, 100%. But just now I've got AMD Smart Access Memory enabled via a GPU driver update and now I want PCIE Gen 4! :LOL:

Yep it is running at PCIE 3.0 speed only other thing I could suggest is try a Cmos reset, But them Unify Board seem to be somewhat problematic.
PCIE 4,0 should score above 26 GB/s

This isn’t good news, this is just the consolation prize. The good news would be a MSi representative comes forward, accept the issue and layout an update schedule to the bios or forward us to RMA. I got 5900x, I got 6800xt, I got 2x16 4000cl16 kit and I thought I got the best motherboard for this only to be disappointed by MSI. This shouldn’t be an issue.

I did cmos reset and also flashed several other bioses but still the same. Some people got pcie4 x16 randomly but I dont, I only got pcie 3 x16 or pcie 4 x8 if I choose x8 x8 in the bios.

No one officially from MSI use or read the Forums

So you will not get a official reply from MSI you will have to contact support directly.

The issue can't be duplicated.

Test config:
MB: B550 UNIFY-X
CPU: 5900X
BIOS: A.41
GPU: RX 6900 XT
Resizable BAR: Enabled
GPU-Z: v2.41.0

image002.png

If you can't get it to work, then RMA the board.

Here is the same screenshot with my configuration;

And here is my bios settings;

I reflashed the latest bios but now I don't have the "Data Link Feature Exchange" and "SR-IOV" options in this menu, I believe I had them here before ?

And these are the GPU related places that I can find in the bios, there are not any info under this items, is this normal?

Got me beat your BIOS setting look correct same as mine or close enough not to matter. Starting to look like your Board is Faulty. It happens from time to time about 3% to 4% of all computer hardware is RMA in the first few weeks of sale.

I tried the latest beta bios which was for Windows 11, I got the Data Link Feature Exchange setting back, set it up like yours but still Gen 3 x16. I also tried the silent bios switch on my Gpu, put the silent bios on but nothing changed. I have a powercolor red devil 6800xt, I don’t know which other 6800xt bioses may be compatible with my card.

AMD nerfed Cross flashing the Vbios this time around It can be done but may result in a GPU that will only run at 500Mhz.
