It's not great but it's the only way to get firmware updates which are needed. Led firmware update isn't actually about led's only. It's an update to the system monitoring chip which monitors all of the temperature sensors, and controls all the fans in the system. It also controls the led's as well so naturally msi call it led firmware lol.

I avoid Windows firmware updating apps (MSI, Gigabyte, etc.) like the plague, just too many potential problems.
Sometimes though you have no choice.
Msi keep quiet about firmware updates, to the point that only in February this year did they openly specify its needed. I don't know about ab, but I would update just before the new bios is installed. I'm staying on a7 till the new bios personally.
LED FW update does not show on my system...its just blank.
So in msi center, support>live update> advanced, you get nothing?
It just says NO UPDATES cannot find updates in server, even after updating to version 1.0.45.0
That suggests you have already downloaded the ab update but I'm guessing you haven't. If center doesn't work correctly it's hard to do anything about it. Also their servers are patchy sometimes.
Even on previous versions of MSI center its never shown anything, to my understanding the led firmware is separate to the bios patching....in which case i have not touched the firmware....could it be that the board was already up to date when i bought it from Scan.co.uk in Jan 2021
It is separate to the bios and you definitely need an update to the firmware. I don't know why scan and advanced scan isn't working for you.

Hi, this morning i decided to try earlier bios to see if anything changes but no, i still have no option for MB LED FW but i`m still getting "mainboard`s LED firmware is abnormal please go to advanced update blah blah blah when i use mystic lighting in MSI center.I get the following I havent updated the bios to the latest, I used to update right away but hearing stories I try to hold off updating if its working no need to update unless its something major
I just ran the advanced update again and now dont see the LED Firmware update they might have removed it ?
Ive not had a problem updating the firmware on the clutch20 but the dpi options in dragon center are pretty sparse....thats what you get for a £25 mouse i suppose.
