MSI X58 Plat not powering on besides the power button HELP!

I bought the board and put everything in it. The Power button on the board lights up but nothing else does (fans). I get no beeps or anything. I tried upluging the GPU (in case it was sucking to much power). I had the psu in a different computer before and it worked (ill test it again)

Specs :

I7 920
3 GB aeneon 1600 cl9 ( 3x 1 gb)
550w Rosewill PSU
Asus HD4870 512mb
Hitachi 1TB.

I tested the PSU and it works on my other PC. Also the power supply doesnt even kick on when i hit the power button.

Yes i tried that ( i cantacted MSI and they said to try that). Could it be because my PSU only has 18a on the 12v? The book says it should be greater than 18a. Could that be why the pus doesnt even power on?

Yes, it could definitely be that as a system with the 4870 should have a PSU capable of 30A on the +12V rail.  Get a better PSU. I would recommend at least the Corsair VX 550 or the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610 or, for more future proofing, the Corsair TX650 or 750, or the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750.

You say 30a on the 12v. Is that with 1 12v or does it combine if you use 2? If i got a PSU with 2 12v at 18a would that combine?

There are so many posts about split rail versus single +12v rail.  The general concensus on these forums is to use a powerful single +12v rail PSU(all the power is availble to all the connectors).  According to the specs on that PSU, it would seem that 35A is available for the +12v rails to share(so if one rail was pulling 18A, 17A would be available to the other), but that is at max output.  One issue with Roswill PSUs have, NewEgg's in-house brand, is the manufacuterer can change several times and even the specs can change for the same model.  Check the sticker on the side of the PSU to see if the specs match the image below.

The PSUs I listed are all single +12V rail PSU.  In the barebones test, just have the MOBO, CPU and HS, one stick of RAM in the first black slot, and the vid card.  You could attach a monitor and/or CD drive if you wish.  Have the absolute minimum.  As long as your PSU is good and as good as it's specs, it really should power up.  Did you did ensure all connections were inserted and well seated, 24pin and 8pin CPU power, and power to the Vid card(should be one or two 6-pin)?  I would borrow another PSU, of good quality, for testing.  If you just bought the Roswill, see if you can return it to NewEgg and purchase one of the other PSU choices I gave.  If other tests don't work, you will need to return the board for RMA.

Yes i tested it on my buddys 950w Rosewill. Still nothing, his PSU didnt even turn on ..... odd. Works fine when he plugged it back into his system. I am sending the board back.
