I have the MSI x58 Pro-E with newly updated bios (version 8.3) and 3x1GB G-Skill RAM
Here is the RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231229

Basically, I have cleared out the CMOS many times.  The bios is updated, etc.  However I only see 2GB of RAM in dual channel mode. When I go to the Memory info in the MB setup, I can see that DIMMS 1,3,5 are filled with the RAM modules.  WHY AM I ONLY GETTING 2GB? Any help is appreciated.  I'm about to return the RAM and get new ones unless someone can give me a good solution.

Thanks in advance.

I have the MSI x58 Pro-e motherboard with Intel I7 920 CPU.  I have one EVGA Nvidia 8600GT with 256 GDDR3 RAM.  Now the RAM slots that are filled are 1,2,3 and the computer recognizes 3GB in BIOS and Windows Vista and it recognizes two of the RAM chips in Dual channel. Also the CPU-Z program shows 3RGB with slots 1,2,3.

The CPU Specs, i7 920, family 6, Model A, Stepping 5, Revision D0, Bloomfield chip.  I had a link to the pictures earlier but I can't be bothered to setup an account with that photobucket site.  Too frustrated.  Oh yeah, Bios is at 8.5 and still does not save manually configured timings.

Either one of your CPU channels are faulty, or there's something wrong with the board.  I'd RMA the board, as the chances of getting a bad CPU are extremely low.

Not sure about the timings, it should be taking them.  Again, my recommendation is to RMA the board to MSI or your reseller.

Bought it off ebay can I RMA it still?

Provided you don't tell them that. :lol_anim:  Maybe, maybe not.  I'm not sure.  Give them a call; see what they say.

For kicks, I bought 3 GB of 9-9-924 RAM (Corsair Brand). I plugged them in expecting to get 3GB... 2GB still. SO I plugged in the other 3GB of GSKILL I had.  Want do know the total RAM in Bios? 4GB.  Looks like the last two channels are not working. BIOS is updated to the latest (8.5) not sure what to do other than RMA the board.

Will they replace my board first or do I have to mail it to them first?

Contact MSI and see what they say.

"I told you so." :lol_anim:

So, this same issue just happened to me.

Anyone know what the cause is?

Anyone know whatever happened in this case? was it the CPU or mobo?

OK

For me it was my CPU
I ran a 166 base clock for some time now.
At first I had 12gig just fine.
Lately, I have to turn down the base clock to retain 12gig, otherwise one memory channel disappears.

I would like to try to bump my voltages, but for some reason it won't let me change them, so I'm stuck with running a lower base clock (150 atm)

Got the QPI voltage at 1.30, set ram at 1.60 (was auto, which should have been around there anyways).
Back to running 166 bclk, and ram at 1600, 3.5ghz

(What tricked me was that the voltage adjustment fields were grayed out - looking locked. But they weren't locked)

All 12 gigs show up. So far no issues.

Hi i recently built a new rig its a liquid cooled i7 with this motherboard and i've been trying to run dual channel ram with the two 2 gig patriot sticks i bought, however windows is not recognizing them. I put them in the proper slots and the bios and cpuz detects them however in windows it just shows i only have two gigs instead of four. Running single channel ram at the moment any ideas?

Bent or broken socket pins can cause this symptom. Sometimes just reseating the CPU can fix this as well. Presume you have tried each RAM stick individually in the primary black A0 slot?

Yes i've tried both of them. They both function fine and i tried both of the black slots as stated in the manual but there was no difference. i've yet to try switching them up after adding the water block. I've got a substantial overclock from 2.6 to 4.2 and it doesn't get higher than 75c at full capacity. i regret taking off the northbridge and using some different thermal paste however i'm don't feel like going through the whole ordeal again. I just built it yesterday. I just really need to get the memory under control. i was thinking about trying to buy another stick and try triple but i don't wanna get my hopes up. I'll try the black slots again and see what happens. i just don't understand why both the bios and cpuz would pick them up but now windows. Does the graphics card have anything to do with it? I'm running a 4870x2.
