& welcome to the forum. To the best of my knowledge, none of the Pro boards have had an actual X58 (IOH) chip fail due to excessive heat. Some have shorted them out by damaging the pad on the heatsink in a 'redo' process though. The X58M uses the same chip, so 'any' series board has the potential for running on the warmer side. I have yet to be presented with an official Intel report of what is considered 'too high' other than the 100c max. The highest IOH on a Pro I have seen is 86c. Full load seems to stay within about 10c, so 86c +10c=96c. Yes, that puts it on the hot side, but still in spec. Long term chip life at that temp? Who knows? My Eclipse Plus IOH idles at 74c, & I've decided not to worry about it.
