Hi there,

please provide full system specs.  Read the >>Posting Guide<< to get an idea of what we need to know.

Please don't forget to mention your current BIOS version and the exact model number of your memory modules.

In addition to that, download this tool:

http://www.tweakers.fr/download/CPU-Tweaker13b3.zip

... and make a screenshot that shows the current Timings & Sub-Timings as well as the SPD-Profiles of your modules.

OK

HOW DO I INSERT PICTURES ON THE FORUM

HOW DO I INSERT PICTURES ON THE FORUM

You need to host them elsewhere (this is a good site:  photobucket.com).  Then you can simply post links to the pics.  They will be integrated into your post if your do this:

Code:
[IMG]http://global.msi.eu/images/logo.gif[/IMG]

Such a line will come out as:

Larger images are automatically made smaller by the forum software.  That is why it is usually a good idea to make the images clickable:

Example:

Code:

This will come out as:

Some first comments about the problems you mentioned in your first post:

windows only see's 3.700gb not 6gb
VISTA ULTIMATE 32BIT

This is not a problem but the result of an addressing limitation of 32bit operating systems.  When a 32bit operating system is used, each address is 32bit wide (a string of 32 bits consisting of "1"s and "0"s).  The maximum amount of different addresses is limited to 2^32 = 4294967296.  Each address points  to a location consisting of exactly 1 Byte, so consequently, exactly 4294967296 Bytes can be addressed with a 32bit operating system (=4194304 KB or 4096 MB or 4GB).  This means that a 32bit operating system provides an address decode space of exactly 4 GB.  However, since system memory is not the only thing that needs to be addressed in a system, part of that address space needs to be reserved for other parts and functions of your system so that these can function.  That is why the maximum amount of usable system memory is only 3.7GB in your case.

This is not really a problem.  You need to use a 64bit operating system in order to be able to utilize 4GB of system memory and more.

so I need to format and put 64 bit on?

If you want to use 4GB++ of system memory, you need to install a 64bit operating system (this is a universial rule).

Whatever you inserted as a screenshot does not work.  I removed it from you post.

is this the correct way? just installing 64 bit ,what do I set my bios to to get it to run at 1600mhz and 6gb, do i have to over clock the cpu ? thanks by the way I am really out of my depth on this
Mike

Keep the memory settings on whatever the BIOS automatically sets for you (for now at least).  We can worry about increasing the memory clock speed later if that is necessary.

To get a better idea about the memory settings, we need the the screenshot I requested.  The detailed timing information will help to find optimal settings.

You have to take them first.  I told you what tool you need to use to get the information about the timings:

download this tool:

http://www.tweakers.fr/download/CPU-Tweaker13b3.zip

... and make a screenshot that shows the current Timings & Sub-Timings as well as the SPD-Profiles of your modules.

If you do not know how to take screenshots, please google "vista screenshots".  There is plenty of information about this on the internet.

Well, doesn't matter then. Don't forget to clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from your PSU after that.

The get your 64bit OS installed and after that, please, make some screenshot so we can get going on your original problem (settings the RAM to DDR3-1600) without making the system unstable.
