I just got this board plugged it in and I am having massive problems getting this board to run any sound at all, I do not have surround sound so I am using the standard Green connector line out !

I have 64-bit Windows 7, I am at a loose end Windows does not EVEN detect it in the system hardware...

thanks for any help <3

Presume HD Audio Controller is 'Enabled' in BIOS Integrated Peripherals? Have you loaded the audio drivers from the MSI install disc?

it is enabled I've tried it disabled...not that that would work but yea...when I put the disk in the icon for the install stays greyed out and I cannot install them.

I have downloaded the latest ones from the website but after installing them still no such luck.

Either the onboard sound circuitry is totally non functional, or since Windows in Device Manager doesn't recognize a sound device as installed, 'maybe' the W7 install is corrupt in some way. A fresh install of W7 might be worth a try, along with Realtek driver package afterwards.

What kind of speakers are you using, are they self-amplified or non-amplified? Have you tested audio with headphones?

ok just reinstalled and still nothing ~_~...they are self amplified, but yes I have tried plugging in headphones.

I have not tried Kubuntu, tinylinux, Vista, Xp and windows 7 32 bit... still no sound.

also the front jacks produce no sound either.

Looks more & more like the boards sound circuitry is faulty. Unless you are planning on using an aftermarket sound card, it should probably be RMA'd for a replacement.

Did you connect a front panel audio header from your case to the motherboard?  If so, make sure its HDAUDIO and not AC97.  Try to disconnect to test.

Does the audio show up in Device Manager and does it have a red "X" or yellow "!"?

If the above is OK, do you get a speaker icon in Win 7 next the clock?  If so, right click on it and select Playback devices.  See if "speakers" shows up on the list.  If not, right click int he white space and tell it to show disabled devices and not connected devices.  See if speakers is listed now and highlight it and click APPLY.  Try again.

The connector for the front is HD, the Sound simply does not even appear my computer wont even detect any hardware at all !

Indeed RMA seems to be the solution here I mean at the moment I have an old UBS Sound card I got with a logitech but I would prefer a MB that does not come faulty as it were.

I was so hoping I was overlooking a BIOS setting as one of my old MB's required a selection in the BIOS if you was not using HD audio.

thanks for all the help people. hopefully the next MB will be more functional.

Just a quick one, Ebuyer seems more than happy for me to send it back although seems i'll be without my new comp now for a couple of weeks ~_~

Since I have to now remove my processor my thermal paste is going to be kerput, anyone got a reliable way to remove paste, sine I'ma gunna have to purchase another tube for replacing it when my new board comes .

I recommend Arctic Silver 5.  Application instruction link as follows.  They also include some info on cleanup.  Be careful and follow instructions.

Good choice.  You can get denatured alcohol in any hardware store.
