All is in the title, I advice people with the same config as me NOT to update bios to the last A23 version. I've got a MSI X870E carbon wifi with Ryzen 7 9800 X3D and for RAM: Corsair Vengeance Black - 2 x 16 Go (32 Go) - DDR5 6000 MHz - CL30 - Ryzen Edition.
Using UEFI menu or MFlash with flash button and USB key for updating to Bios 7E49v1A23 resulted in a non bootable system, the MB restarting over and over before the POST message. Clear CMOS button didn't help. Fortunately I could get my system back by flashing boas to Bios A21.

Hope this info can prevent problems and maybe help the MSI team to fix this

Seems A24 is working ok but may still have issues. Has anyone tried the new A25 beta yet? I have been watching a few posts as i get my x870e carbon next Friday and all of this is making me very anxious haha. Will be pairing it with a 9800X3D and either TeamGroup 32gb kit CTCED532G6000HC30DC01 or Kinston Fury KF560C30BBEK2-32 and just want it to work :(

Hello, my motherboard is an x870 tomahawk wifi, 9800x3d processor and XPG 6000MT CL30 memories, and I'm having the same loop problems, I've already updated the bios to the most current version of January 2025, when entering a loop I need to unplug the equipment and start it again and then the system starts. To enter the bios is also another difficulty, sometimes I need to connect to the motherboard's HDMI to pass the image, because for some reason the bios screen does not appear on the display of my video card.

I usually get longer 64 code when I have lots of usb devices connected (external hdd), have you tried disconnecting everything and leave only mouse/kb connected?
but we already know 1.2.0.3 agesa gives problems with 9000x3d, so it's something expected

Same boot loop with 1A24 on X870 Tomahawk Wifi. Flashed back to 1A20 and everything is fine. Specs below.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9800X3D
Cooler: Corsair H100i RGB AIO
Motherboard: MSI MAG Tomahawk X870 WIFI
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2x16GB) 6400 CL36
GPU: MSI Gaming X Slim RTX 4080 Super 16 GB
PSU: Super Flower 1000W
Storage: 1x 1 TB Samsung 970 EVO 1 TB, 1x WD Black SN850X 4 TB
Primary USB Devices:
  • Keyboard: Corsair K70 Lux
  • Mouse: Corsair Scimitar Elite
  • Mouse Pad: Corsair MM800 RGB Polaris
  • Headset: Corsair Virtuoso XT
  • Fan/RGB Control: Corsair Commander Pro, Corsair iCUE Link System Hub
  • External USB Hub: AmazonBasics Powered USB 3.0 Hub
Due to the setup of my desk I have fairly long cable runs from the back of my PC to my peripherals/monitors. Therefore, most of the external peripherals (except headset) are connected via various USB hubs in my monitors and an external powered USB hub. I did not get a chance to try the BIOS update with these devices unplugged.

I opened a ticket with MSI support. They confirm that the motherboard (MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI in my case) doesn't work with USB hubs and it may be added in a future BIOS update.

Ticket:
Motherboard doesn't work with USB hubs

Content:
Have checked but the current version of the bios does not appear to have a feature for enabling the hubs in the bios environment, ill see about reporting the issue for any future updates

Wouldn't that be contrary to the USB standard? I thought hubs weren't really any different than any other USB device; handling multiple devices plugged into a hub should be part of the protocol, not the BIOS.

Wondering if maybe something got lost in translation in your ticket.

EDIT: I ask this question because of the wording of the response:
Have checked but the current version of the bios does not appear to have a feature for enabling the hubs in the bios environment, ill see about reporting the issue for any future updates
This doesn't make sense. No motherboard I've ever used has had a BIOS option to enable USB hub functionality. Hubs just work because hubs are part of the USB standard, and a standard-compliant USB implementation will support them without any options to turn them on and off. I'm wondering if whatever first-line support answered your ticket thought you were asking if such an option existed, quickly looked and saw it didn't (which is fine because that wouldn't even make sense), and then closed your ticket.

I agree with you, but the fact remains that no BIOS on my motherboard has ever worked with a USB hub until after Windows boots. Either the BIOS effectively ignores the hubs (and everything connected to them) or it goes into a boot loop (A24 BIOS). Maybe if there are enough of these tickets, someone with more technical savvy will notice and do something about it. I suspect they already tried once, which is why the A24 BIOS behavior was different, but they didn't do it right. I will wait and see what happens in the next BIOS. If it isn't fixed then, I'll submit another ticket and try to get it elevated to a higher level of tech support.

so this why you see the 64 code for so long?
it's the code I mentioned before
I usually get longer 64 code when I have lots of usb devices connected (external hdd), have you tried disconnecting everything and leave only mouse/kb connected?

Even if didn't think about usb hubs specifically, I was close when I said to remove any unnecessary usb devices

I also have the same exact issue.

I'm also afflicted with this issue. I actually narrowed it down to the exact "USB hub" that is causing it.

Built in usb hub on the NZXT Canvas 27Q

The NZXT Canvas 27Q is the specific usb "hub" I own that causes me to get into the infinite boot loop. If I leave everything plugged in except for the NZXT monitor, I boot up without issue.

Setup:
AMD Ryzen 9800 X3D
Be Quiet Pure Loop 240mm
MSI X870E carbon wifi
Bios 7E49v1A23 - AGESA PI-1.2.0.3a
RAM: G.SKILL DDR5 32GB PC 6000 CL30 (2x16GB) 32-GX2-TZ5N AMD Expo (mistake earlier)
MSI Geforce RTX 2080 Ti gaming X trio
Creative Sound Blaster AE9
Intel® SSD 660p Series M.2 SSDPEKNW020T8
Alienware 34" QD-OLED - AW3423DW
Razer Lycosa keyboard
Razer Trinity mouse
Win 11 pro 24h2 (but never had a chance to boot with infinite immediate restart with Bios A23)

Alienware screen does have also a built in usb Hub, and I had a verbatim 47264 card reader nplugged in also

Go to Wake Events and Enable Wake by USB this will keep power to the hub when PC is turned off and should let it work in bios with KB or Mouse attached to it.

When I try to add the A24 or A25 bios to my flash drive I am getting an error saying the file name is too long? I am able to add all the other bios files on there without any issues and it's the same number of characters in the file name. I even tried renaming the file but then the flash utility will not see the file for some reason.

I was ready to pull my board out and send it back, I have Lian-Li wireless fans and needed more USB headers than the motherboard has so I bought two NZXT hubs. When using A21 or A23 BIOS I was getting boot loop. I installed A25 and now all my devices are plugged in and working great. I did have trouble entering BIOS, I had to boot into troubleshooting mode, If I hit DEL during startup it locks up on code 64 with the green LED on and will not continue. edit: If I wait until the popup saying to hit delete shows up and then hit delete I can get into BIOS.

Where did you get A25?
