Which is the headphone socket on the back panel of this motherboard? The manual says the line out socket (middle socket which is red). However, when I plug headphones into this socket, it just says speakers in the Realtek sound manager. If I plug headphones into the line out socket it asks me what I plugged in and one of the options is headphones. So which is it?

What I do know is that in either socket, the amp is not capable of properly driving 80 ohm headphones even though I am using direct audio power.

You reference 2 apparently different ports on the motherboard, but refer to them both as line out. Which sockets are you actually referencing?
What headphones are you using?

Sorry the second part should have said line-in. When I plug the headphones into the line-in socket the software detects it and asks what I plugged in. One of the options is headphones. However, in both sockets the sound is the same so how to I enable the amp on the red socket?
