This is a new system build. The motherboard receives power and fans start to spin but power turns off within a second. If I keep the power jumpers shorted it tries 2-3 times then the MSI LED flashes 16 fast, 1 long, 2 moderate. I have plugged in the speaker but receive no beep codes.

I have tried:
  • Removing all components besides CPU
  • Reseating Memory (currently in slot 2 and 4)
  • Removing the motherboard from the chassis
  • Cleaing the CMOS by removing the battery for 15 minutes
  • Clearing the BIOS by shorting JBAT1 for 15 seconds
  • Two PSUs
  • Reseat CPU and inspect for bent pins

I cannot find what the MSI LED code indicates. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Motherboard seems to be dead, especially when you tried quite few things. The only thing you could do is try different CPU and make sure it's motherboard or CPU that is dead/bad.
I think you could look around the motherboard looking for some colour changes, bad smell or anything like that, that may be bad looking/smelling/moving.

Thanks for the response. I did inspect the board and see no signs of discoloration. I don't have a spare CPU unfortunately. I was hoping the code would at least differentiate between a bad board and a bad CPU. I didn't want to return both if I could figure out which was busted.

If you bought it from local store then they would test it. Else ask local It services for testing. Or simply return both.

Codes displayed by the LED doesn't tell anything, as by default your PC would turn on only for 1 second which is not enough for 16 flashes or more, it was rather that you were holding it in a loop.
