My Adventures with the 4090 Gaming Trio and the Two RMAs That Accompanied It

Had this graphics card for less than a year, still have the box for it too. And when it worked: it worked well. Components were all new. One day: it failed to post. I had it sent to get it RMA'd since it was still under warranty. They accepted and, after paying 120ish dollars to have it sent to them insured by FEDEX, it got there. I believe once it was in their hands, it was about 12 days that they had it before it was sent back to me (which color me impressed).

The card worked after a couple times before we had a spectacular fail that made the component burst into blue smoke which made me instinctively turn it off while my wife angerly shook her head and the little one ran away screaming because she's never seen a computer component actually do that. I asked them to waive the shipping because this definitely wasn't our fault as we got another 2080ti (ASUS) and it worked perfectly fine. Several times. No issues with it since. They did so and I've been calling them checking on the progress of this card because, to be quite honest: I'm pretty gun shy about it all now. It became to the point to where they were starting to get passive aggressive with my call volume mentioning that I had called previously and whatnot. Wouldn't be an issue if you fixed the thing right but now I have to micromanage by asking all the questions

Its still under RMA but my review would essentially be this: When it works, it works well. It was almost as if you had Usain Bolt as a graphics card and gaming was just this cute little 30 meter dash. It was nothing but speed in perfect form. But, relative to my experience, when it doesn't: You might have two RMAs. The reps are not going to be helpful. They will probably lie to you about the state as to how the cards are currently in terms of stability (This "supervisor" said that he didn't have to deal with alot of this issue yet he was super backed up, like, how does that even happen?)

By the by: they called me on Christmas eve to tell me they were going to bare minimum this. I had to correct him in telling him that they were replacing it and I had it in writing. You know they extend warranties for stuff like this, right? I dunno. They told me it wasn't a big deal that we just don't have this component for almost a full calendar month and I'm sure that if they send me the same card back I'm going to have to actually talk to someone in a suit because that was not the agreed upon thing we were going to do.

Tl;dr: Worked, had two RMAs (still on the second), Its a game busting, neck turning, gorgeous piece of electronics...when it works. Beware of the reps and bad repair jobs. Be well and drink water.

Well one problem is Nvidia stopped production of the 4090 a while ago no one has spares, all spares need to come from dead cards so who do you blame and Micromanage now you have that gleam of knowledge

Are you in USA if so kind of explains the crapp service

I’m aware of the challenges surrounding the availability of replacement cards but your comment doesn’t contribute to a resolution of the issue or the addressing of my concerns. My priority is getting a working product that hasn’t failed repeatedly and not the debate of stock availability or logistics. If this platform isn't intended to assist with these concerns, I’ll continue handling it through other channels. Constructive input would be more appreciated than snide remarks from the peanut gallery.

And yes, I'm in the US, trust me: I am aware. I just don't know why its so bad here but I feel its just that the laws really do not support consumers and they take advantage of that. Meh, I fought for this country that does so much to screw us. I don't expect a medal, just to be treated with some kind of consideration. I have written in other places such as: Reddit, Facebook, I'm going to make a twitter so I can say I wrote on there, Trustpilot, the BBB, google, etc. I know they could give a rat's whisker about this but golly gosh would it kill them to at least look like it? I guess it really is this country's fault for not giving a damn about the consumer AKA themselves but whatever. Life sucks then we die, right?

Update: They sent out a card and I was told it was not the same card (literal same, its still the same model) which was all I wanted to hear. It'll probably be here in a couple of days. I'll call support once I install it in, have Mary check my work, and talk to support so if it dies again they could be there for it. Can't imagine it dying a third time but I also couldn't imagined being in the Navy so things just happen. I'll keep ya'll updated. But, as always, thanks for listening.

Not sure of US consumer act, but in most of Europe after 3 failed repairs you should receive a brand new replacement or a refund. Might be worth reading about your rights.

Gah its probably going to blow up my computer but they said that they sent me a new one but I can only imagine (with my luck anyways) a hodgepodge amalgam of a 4090 but I'll let y'all know when it comes in. I have to film its unboxing so that they don't think I staged it coming in broken and I think I'll call them as I put it in from the box (presumably after I open it) so that they can make sure I'm on the up and up. I'll check up things if it decides to end its own existence again. Its the only thing I can do. Still though: thanks for responding. I just want this to be over with so the girls can be mad for a couple days while they catch up on Genshin because they refuse the phone and tab life with it and I can get back to 4k gaming and not this 1080p laptop running a 2070.

The Cooler Master v1100 Platinum. Works fine still but I'm going back to a Corsair because (family gift over christmas) I got a large case and the cables were for an sfx build so that wasn't going to help.

Update: I finally got the card, came in a black box that was within a brown box with those larger air pillows to protect it. Inside the black box was the typical foam guards you find for a typical graphics card and, lo and behold, I got another different 4090 Gaming Trio (like an actual different one, not model, the serial numbers are different) and its a pretty mid card all things considered. I did a couple of stress tests and its nothing to wow anyone's mother over but it does the job and it did it for 30 minutes. The girls are going to probably act indifferent at first then play Genshin until dinner and probably eat dinner while playing. Obvi I gotta keep using it because my last card worked for awhile before it exploded but I hope it reaches longevity overall like my 2080ti before it which took 6 years to die. They did not do anything crazy or extra whatsoever (not even an extended warranty) so there's that. Like pulling teeth to get anything done with these people. I just wish I didn't wait a month to be disappointed twice before this and I still don't know if I'm going to be disappointed I mean it turned off fine the last two times then it either died or it Michael Bay'd itself (it wasn't that cool...) so I'll rant more if anything else occurs. Thanks for asking the questions.

Summary: I got back a different serial numbered card, its an alright one but it works on the 65 4k monitor so now the girls don't think they have to play like primitives anymore. Going to keep using it pretty hard for awhile to make sure it stays good. MSI did the bare minimum of replacing it after a month of headache but hey, at least they did their jobs.
