My Unboxing of msi GL62M 7RD

Hello, this is my unboxing review of the msi GL62M 7RD. I bought my first gaming laptop off newegg and I've just got it set up!

The specs are as follows:
Screen: 15.6in matte 1080
Processor: i5 2.5ghz
Ram: 8gb
HDD: 1tb 7200rpm
GPU: nvidia geforce gtx 1050 2gb

This is my first gaming laptop (my previous was a lenovo that struggles to run games at 30fps). I chose msi because they have among the best price for an entry level gaming laptop with a gtx1050. The laptop arrived in a plain box which inside contained the actual laptop box. Everything was neatly packed and easy to set-up. I glanced at the quick start guide but everything is pretty standard if you're used to modern laptops (fn keys, buttons at top of keyboard are for turbo fan and the dragon control panel).

A few of my thoughts upon setting up my laptop is the screen is pretty nice although the bezel is somewhat large giving the appearance of a smaller screen than it actually is. The track pad is very responsive and the keyboard is what I would expect from a laptop. Thin, flat membrane based buttons that are easy to press. As for bloatware, there were a few (some magix software i'd never use, norton trial, office trial) but much less than other brands. My laptop comes with one hard drive, yet there are 2 partitions a C drive and a D drive. I'm not sure why as the D drive is completely empty it's not used for recovery (I guess if you have lots of random stuff you don't want to have on your desktop or with all your program folders)? As for gaming performance, I'm completely satisfied. It doesn't run modern games on ultra settings at 1080 resolution, but does just fine on medium/high. Or for me I prefer using 720 resolution as I feel 1080 makes everything a bit too small on a 15in screen but it let's me up the graphics to high/ultra. Overall, I would say it's a great entry level laptop and a good upgrade for anyone gaming using a laptop with an integrated intel chip!

Running ultra setting on games might be pretty tough for a gaming laptop. I specifically prefer the FPS than resolution. Normal or high setting would already good enough and there is not much difference on it.  One thing that makes ultra setting difference, i think its located on the particle effect or the lightning. I have tried to see difference on the texture, but it does not much different.

Yeah I noticed with a smaller screen size you can get away with a smaller resolution as the dpi is higher and because I'm using a smaller resolution, going to ultra settings doesn't really make a difference as the lower resolution can only display so much for example in killing floor 2, changing textures from low to medium is a huge difference. However, from medium to high is minor and from high to ultra I can't tell unless it's a side by side comparison.
