Need help with cpu compatibility!

I currently have a h310m pro-vdh plus motherboard and am looking to upgrade my cpu as its quite outdated now.
I'm running a 3060 and 24gb ram and was thinking of getting something like an i3 14100f cpu but I'm unsure on how to find out if it's compatible as I don't have the packaging and the motherboards quite old now so it doesn't have many videos of modern compatability on it.
Would it be worth to just buy a new motherboard or would I be able to run an i3 14100f on it fine?
Any help would be massively appreciated!

h310m pro-vdh is only compatible with 8th and 9th gen CPU's ONLY

for a 14th gen CPU you would need intel 600 or 700 series Motherboard not the 300 you have.

As been said above, it won't work. Every two years, Intel changes enough about the socket that you need a new board.
This was a low-end board model suitable for the lower-end CPU models at the time, but not for any current CPUs.

This is a timeline of Intel boards/CPUs of the last 10+ years. Pay close attention to the socket changes, roughly every two years.
With each change - even from Socket 1151 to 1151v2 - there's new CPUs requiring new boards.

2011 - Sandy Bridge - 2nd gen, Core i-2000 - Mainboards with 60-series chipsets, Socket 1155
2012 - Ivy Bridge - 3rd gen, Core i-3000 - Mainboards with 70-series chipsets, Socket 1155
2013 - Haswell - 4th gen, Core i-4000 - Mainboards with 80-series chipsets, Socket 1150 (new)
2014 - Haswell Refresh & Broadwell - Core i-4000/5000 - Mainboards with 90-series chipsets, Socket 1150
2015 - Skylake - 6th gen, Core i-6000 - Mainboards with 100-series chipset, Socket 1151 (new)
2016 - Kaby Lake - 7th gen, Core i-7000 - Mainboards with 200-series chipset, Socket 1151
2017 - Coffee Lake - 8th gen, Core i-8000 - Mainboards with 300-series chipset, Socket 1151v2 (new) <- your board generation
2018/19 - Coffee Lake Refresh - 9th gen, Core i-9000 - Mainboards with 300-series chipset (Z390 added), Socket 1151v2 <- also supports 9th gen CPUs (BIOS update)

So you'd need to buy a cheap B660 board at least, for example the PRO B660M-A WIFI DDR4 (i'd avoid the B660M-P though, they tried to save money on important things there). Then we have another potential problem though, your RAM. You say you are using 24 GB, which on DDR4 is only possible if you combine different RAM, for example 2x 8 GB + 2x 4 GB, or use an odd number of modules, like 3x 8 GB. Both are not good things to do at all, i explain it here for example. Plus, if the RAM is as old as the board, it will probably have quite a low speed, in the DDR4-2xxx range. This would become a bottleneck nowadays. So it's best to pencil in a new kit of 2x 8 GB or 2x 16 GB DDR4-3200 or -3600. Use two modules only, in slots A2 and B2.

Then, since the new board supports M.2 PCIe SSDs, you might as well do a fresh install of Win11 onto a new M.2 PCIe SSD while you're at it, according to here. If you want a cheap but decent M.2 SSD, you could consider a WD Blue SN570 or a Kioxia Exceria G2. Something better, Crucial P5 Plus or WD Black SN770. The best, WD Black SN850X, Seagate FireCuda 530 or Samung 990 PRO. Have that as the only SSD in your system for the Windows installation, you can add other SSDs once Windows is installed.
