Hi,
Have been testing the GD80 a while now but have had huge problems with lack of bclk, I believe it's bios related. Have tried 1.7 that's maxing out at ~193bclk, 1.88 gives me 1-2 more bclk but doesn't allow anything else than auto or x24 as QPI multipel. Have tried on air and cascade so it's really not cpu related.

Running this config atm:

GD80
i5 661
G.skill perfect storm 2133mhz cl8

Maybe anyone here can provide me with some different betas, like 1.83 and so on.

/Fredrik

Here's a link to the German MSI forum that has the beta bios files for the GD80:
http://msi-forum.de/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=91959

Seems to be down for maintenance right now though

The latest beta version is v188, I downloaded the file but have yet to install it.  Uploaded it to Rapidshare for ya.

:red: Link removed

I flashed 188 with the MSI USB flashing tool.  Appeared to flash properly, and was asked to reboot at the end.  Upon reboot, I get a screen saying "Bios Recovery"...

I've copied the v1.7 bios to a blank USB drive renamed it AMIBOOT.ROM and it still says "File Not Found" in the Bios Recovery.  Do i need a more recent beta bios to do this?  Unfortunately the German MSI forum with all the beta files is down, so I can't download any of the beta files.

If anyone has a copy of any beta GD80 v18x, please share and PM me the info.

Thanks

do >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed.
then see how its goes.
about recovery use original file name.[do not rename it]

I followed the clear cmos guide, even removed all peripherals except video card and one stick of memory.  Tried forcing CTRL+HOME, which just brings up the Bios recovery again

So, Bios recovery loads, says searching for USB Flash...found.
File not found

I tried every BIOS file I could download.  I copied the original file to the Root of my USB Flash drive:
File not found

Tried renaming to AMIBOOT.ROM, BIOS, AMIBIOS.ROM, MSIBIOS.ROM, etc etc. Still:
File not found

I spent about 6 hours yesterday trying to bring this board back to life with no luck.  Next step?

I used three different USB flash drives, different brands.  Flash drive "Found".  Same result "File not found".

Have you tried putting the latest know BIOS Version (the plain BIOS File) onto the stick without actually changing the original file name?

Was able to get the Bios recovery to "find" a file, scans/loads the file and after a minute or so says "Completed", and reboots.  Upon reboot, it goes into the Bios Recovery again.  I tried resetting the cmos, removing the battery and cutting the power, holding down the Clear CMOS button for 30+ seconds...still every time the board boots into "Bios Recovery".

I tried renaming multiple bios versions (from 1.1 to some of the newer betas), and see the same result.  Completed...then auto reboot to Bios Recovery again.  Time to box the board up I guess.

I'd love to know how this turn out for you (if you ever got a new board in).  I have the exact same limits as you do, as far as QPI and BCLK.

MSI really REALLY needs to get to work on making a decent BIOS for this board.

I experienced this problems also with a beta version for P55-GD85.
Flashing went ok, but after restart... "searching for USB Flash" etc
The solution that worked:
1. a previously (actually beta also) bios version, renamed as the version that gave problems, BIOS Recovery found it and recover BIOS. That wasn't enough, BIOS Recover still kicks in. But:
2. On first reboot after this recovery with the old version "DEL" key worked and I managed to enter BIOS. The only menu available was the flash one, so I did a reflash through the bios M-Flash. That went fine, and the board was working ok. However,
3. I did a reflash of the bios version that went wrong, using the MSI guide this time, I was curious if the bios was bad or not (was recommended by MSI Support). Flashing went ok, the board working with no issues.

Forgot about this thread!

I got some new betas from Michael @ MSI and managed to get some okey scores.
252bclk with 750 without crazy voltage or good cpu (cb @ -130C)
So everything went fine! :)
