New Build cd-rom boot fail on P55-GD80

After about three weeks of puttering with building my i7 p55-GD80 system I am at a loss about how to get WinXP to install.
Simply put I can not get the system to boot off of an IDE CD-Rom or DVD-Rom, or IDE drive formatted and imaged with the install disk. I am beginning to think that I will have to get a SATA DVD drive to get it to boot.

IDE drives used: DVD by LG , DVD by Lite-On (was working in Compaq previously), & finally a HP drive I had just booted from in my old system.

I was able to get a Hiran's to run using a GRUB boot setup on a thumb drive and from this I am sure the issue is not with the IDE subsystem. Hard disk diagnostics all worked out. However, in moving files over to try to get the HD to boot enough to run the install the new system has flagged the thumb drive as having a virus and refuses to run from it even after reformatting.

Any further thoughts are welcome since I have never seen a drive fail to boot even though it worked in another computer moments before. 
Does MSI have an issue with booting from IDE?

Have you set the optical drive as 1st boot device, either in BIOS or by F11 and select it there? Be sure you have the disc in the drive when booting.

Did the round robin again.
  This time I pulled the IDE HD I was trying to use since it was a known good.
  IDE Optical-drive moved to a solo master and the only IDE device.
  Connected SATA HD as the only SATA device.

Went into BIOS and set boot order to Optical then SATA.
  -no joy, system bypassed optical drive
Started with F11 selected boot device as Optical
  -no joy, system bypassed optical drive
Returned to BIOS and set boot order to Optical only ever other boot option off.
  -no joy, system now states Reboot & Select Proper Boot device ....
    -Removed disk and replaced / pressed key etc
      -Confirmed that drive is accessing media

Next set of suggestions?  :emot-tip-wink:

Have you check the DVD drive jumper settings? In BIOS, is there an option for you to set the drive to IDE AHCI?

OK, Now I have to admit I have gotten rusty.
It turns out the XP-Pro install disk had the auto-run file and not the boot set I was convinced was there.
I haven't done a major system build since my Athlon Tunderbird. (7 or 8 years ago)

  - Note: the recommended freeware burner (ImgBurn) the scrip was written for does work with ver. 2.5.0.0 currently available.

Yeah my next suggestion would have been check to see if disc itself was defective or some such thing. I remember the 1st time I slipstreamed an XP + SP2 disc it took a half dozen or so tries with Nero till I got it right.
