New build stopped working after a few hours. Lights on CPU, DRAM, VGA. Reboots itself every 15 sec. No display on both GPU and Mobo.

RAM : 32GB (2x16) DDR5 6000 MHz CL30

Hello,

I built my first PC and everything worked fine for a few hours until I changed my monitor settings to disable Smart HDR. The moment I clicked on "off" I lost signal and the monitor suddenly didn't recognize my PC. The DP cable works.

I rebooted the computer but it kept rebooting every 15 sec. It starts with the CPU on red for about 1 sec and turns off, then goes to orange on the DRAM for about 1 sec and turns off, then to white on VGA for about 3 sec and turns off, then no light for about 10 sec and it reboots. The fans are turning but the RGB lights do not (there's a green dot for half a second but that's it).

When I spam the Delete key, my PC doesn't reboot and it seems I get access to the BIOS, but since I have no display I can't see what I'm doing.

When I boot without RAM I have the DRAM led staying on and the PC doesn't reboot. No beeping sound at all. When I put one RAM stick on the first slot closest to the CPU the PC doesn't boot at all, as if the PSU is dead. Still no display in all these instances.

I have tried
- Removing the CMOS battery and wait for 30 min
- Shorting the pins
- Booting with 1 RAM stick
- Booting without RAM
- Booting without GPU
- Plugging CPU_POWER2
- Checking for loose cables and RAM
- Plugging the GPU on a different PCI5 slot

Note that I did change the RAM frequency and went from 4200 to 6000 MHz. This was done a few hours prior to my problem and I did reboot the PC to confirm the BIOS change with no issue.

Any idea? I'm getting desperate...
 
I would probably try to borrow a different monitor, so you can hopefully at least get into the BIOS again and see what might be the issue.

I don't know anyone with a spare monitor. I could probably buy a second one on Amazon, but if it turns out I also have to return the CPU and motherboard I'm not sure they'll give me a refund for everything...

I plugged the DP to USB-C cable and the monitor still detects nothing. So I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the monitor... Must be a bad motherboard or CPU. I'm not sure which one though...

An assumption is never good enough. You said "it seems I get access to the BIOS". Proper troubleshooting is to try with a different monitor. If that still doesn't show a picture, then fair enough, it's probably not on that end. But you don't just replace things on assumptions, otherwise you risk wating time and resources for nothing.

Every PC has a monitor, and almost everyone has a PC, so trying to get a monitor for testing shouldn't be impossible. Doesn't have to be a spare monitor, just has to be someone that is willing to help, then it can be their main monitor. You can even take your PC there, then it's just a matter of connecting the display cable to your PC instead of theirs for a couple minutes.
 
Good news! After a proper CMOS reset (I left the battery out for close to a day), I now have display and the RGB fans light up. I can get access to the BIOS and the settings are back to default.

However, I still experience reboots after a couple seconds with both the CPU and the RAM leds turning on. This happens when Windows is about to load.

I will try reseating the CPU and motherboard.
 
Are all the pins bent?

Pins look good. Yes, they are all bent like this from factory, you only have to look for "odd ones" that are bent differently from the surrounding ones.
You used too much thermal paste, but at least that's better than too little. Anyway, nothing wrong to be seen, must be some other cause.

Try booting Memtest86 as a describe here (in the F11 boot menu, that USB stick will have two entries, for a modern system, the lower entry should start Memtest86, otherwise try the upper entry).
 
Thank you. Just a few observations:
- I don't have any option for setting XMP on BIOS, only iEXPO. Does that mean my RAM is not ideal for this MB? (G.Skill Kit 32 Go DDR5-6000 CL30)
- My BIOS on iEXPO shows 4800 MHz instead of the 6000 capacity. If I disable iEXPO I get 6000 MHz

EXPO is an AMD invention for AM5, so it was meant more for AM5. However, often times, with kits up to DDR5-6000, the XMP and EXPO versions of the kit use the same hardware under the heatspreader, they will only come with a differently programmed profile, which may back off certain timings to something looser for AM5 as compared to the XMP profile. Above that speed, most of the kits are meant for Intel. Some kits meant for Intel just don't play very nice with AM5, but the other way around like you are having should be less of a problem, because Intel has stronger memory controllers in comparison.

This seems backwards. What is your kit's exact model name?

That's actually not impossible. Good thing to check. Take off the cable for the power button completely, use a screwdriver to bridge the two power switch pins instead.
 
Yes, Flare X5 is always meant for AMD AM5, and Ripjaws S5 is for Intel. But that shouldn't cause this much of confusion for the BIOS. When you enable iEXPO and press F10 to save&exit, what happens exactly?

And what about booting Memtest86, does that work? If so, maybe try to do a fresh install of Windows.

I can either enable or disable iEXPO with no problem. Turns out when I enable it I get 6000 MHz now...

Unfortunately I don't have access to a computer so I can't boot Memtest86...

Looks like the power/reset button is stuck ?
I did a test with a screwdriver and the issue is still there...

I tried to figure out which component was giving me trouble by adding them one by one. Here's the result:

#1. CPU + PSU + fans + keyboard + DP cable : red CPU light for a sec, then orange RAM light that stays on. No display, no reboot.

#2. + 1 stick of RAM in A2 : red CPU light for a sec, then orange RAM light for a sec, then VGA for 3 sec, then the green boot light stays on (this is new) and I have display + access to the BIOS. No reboot.

#3. + 1 stick of RAM in B2 : same as #2. BIOS recognizes the two sticks.

#4. + USB cables : same as #2.

#5. + JDP1 (power switch, reset switch, power led,...) : same as #2.

At this point I have everything on it except the NVMe SSD.

#6. + NVMe SSD : and my issue is back. Red CPU light for a sec, then orange RAM light for a sec, then white VGA light, then the green boot light flashes for less than a sec, no light until Windows is about to restart, and the PC reboots.

Could it be the SSD?

Well worth testing. Borrow/use a different SSD only, and attempt a fresh install of Win11 on there. Or heck, just try a fresh install of Win11 on that same SSD, maybe it's just something wrong with the installation. What SSD model is this? During the first couple hours of running the PC, have you done some stress-testing to confirm it's stable?
 
Tested with a new motherboard but the same model. Still the same issue. At least we can rule out a bad motherboard...

My SSD is a Kingston NV2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 with a Windows 10 installation that I downloaded from the Microsoft website. I didn't active it but it was working for a few hours before my issue began.
