New K8T Neo won't boot. D-Bracket LEDs show nothing.

I just bought my first AMD based system, maybe I forgot to do something? I've read the manual but I don't feel that I've missed anything.

Anyway I've connected the ATX 12V & the ATX 20-Pin Power Connectors. I also connected that D-Bracket thingy, a GeForce2MX and one 512MB Ram in DDRslot 1. I have no harddrives or anything else connected, I just want to see if my system works.

When I try to boot the FANs go on but that's it.
The leds on the D-Bracket shows nothing.
I get nothing on my monitor.
I can only turn the computer off by disconnecting the power cable.
I've tried to unplug->plug it back together. No luck. :( I've also tried it with no RAM at all = no difference.

CPU: A64 3000+
MB: MSI K8T NEO-FSR
RAM: Corsair Value S. PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB - Unbuffered, Non-parity, 64Megx64, CL2.5
PSU: AntecTruePower380W +5V@35A +12V@18A +3.3V@28A

Is my PSU too weak or may something be broken? :undecided:

Thanks.

UPDATE: My MB was offically defective

Really suspecting the bios chip, on most boards it can be replaced or reblown, but superfox tells me it is soldered in. Which means an RMA, rather than either having it reblown or a new chip sent.

Is your Bios chip soldered in ?

Try the RAM first

You obviously have a newer board than me, this problem must have raised its head before.

I had the same problem, no video. all fans would come on and the Power led would flash on and off every 2 seconds. I dont know about the D bracket as I never checked it. Also the only way I could turn the PC off was to turn the PSU switch off.
Like I said before I changed the PSU and it fixed the problem, Perhaps a email to MSI support might help, they might know of other reason why the Power led flashes?

That's exactly what my system does. What PSU did you have when it didn't work?

Hi

He had a cheap and nasty PSU that din't produce enough amps on the +12v, not an enermax like you. It is possible, but unlikely your new PSU has a fault.

Try MSI, and if they give another reason for flashing led, let us know.

Good luck

First - go get yourself a power supply tester before you do anything else. They can be purchased at most electronics outlets for about 20 bucks. You are in the same boat I just got out of!!

Using approved compatible ram per MSI website - 2 Kingston KVR400X64C25/256 for total 512MB of ram...slots 1 and 2. However, I've read where one individual had to utilize slots 1 and 3. Also, did you connect your 4-pin 12v power connector?

Your power supply could be near DOA, the memory you are using could be a problem, or one of the DIMM slots is malfunctioning. Again - check your
connectors to JUSB2 and JLED. Remove CMOS battery, and then clear data at JBAT1 - then re-install battery and try power-up again. I've been through this before!!!

I don't have and Enermax but I'll buy an Enermax 465 tomorrow if my computer store has any in stock. Figure I'll still need a better PSU to get a stable system. Right?
I'll will also get ahold of some RAM Sticks for tomorrow. If that doesn't work I'll guess I'll just have to send my MB,RAM & CPU back.
I thought of something though. Since my D-Bracket doesn't work at all I get a feeling it's eighter a problem with the PSU or the MB. If it was the CPU or RAM my D-Bracket would tell me something? Well unless it's more than one piece of hardware that's damaged. :shocked_anim:

I'll also see if I can contact MSI somehow and ask them about flashing LED.

Thanks

Btw, I didnt have a cheap and nasty PSU, I had a Sparkle 400watts which had 15amps(18amps max) on +12 , the Enermax 465 has 33amps on +12. :nono:

Hi s/fox

Pulling your leg, I looked and saw what you had. theres none of them cheap.

Ztray,

Take the PSU to computer shop, they can test it.

In fact if you took the case they could try various Rams as well

Cheers

I've now tried a diffrent PSU. Enermax 465 12v@33a.
No luck.
Also tried 3 other RAM Sticks. 1 Kingston256 and 2 Elexir256.
No luck there either.
Tried with CMOS-Flash and reconnected JFP1&2 again.
Nothing.

So I'll be sending MB, RAM and CPU back in a couple of days :nooo:

Thank you for all your help though.
I'll probably try getting it to POST a couple of times before it's to late so I'll be back

you replace psu, tried other mem, try double checking checking front pannel connectors.

from what i am reading it sound like your cpu is over heating.
a long time ago i got curious about what kind of cpu I actually had, at that time somepeople were unlocking chips, so i pulled off the ol heat sink and had a look.
everything seamed ok untill about the second boot computer went down hill fast....
turns out i didnt replace the thermal grease...doh and cooked my chip

so when you built your system you removed protective tape and put heatsink on cpu with out struggling and wiping off thermal grease?
and when you looked for bent pins you put back thermal grease with something like artic silver?

if that isnt it, you either have a damaged motherbord or cpu.

Yes I used artic silver actually =)

Anyway I sent my CPU, MB and RAM back last week and I got a response from them today.

They said CPU and RAM was OK. But apparently the MB was defective.

"MB: No pic, no boot. Could not flash BIOS. DEFECTIVE!"

I'll recieve a new one soon so I hope that one will work. Yay =) I wonder if I broke it though  I don't think I did.. guess I'll never know.

Thank you all
