No Post With 5900x or 3600x on a B550 Tomahawk

So ive bought a new b550 board and 5900x processor.

I dont get any post when either are slotted in, i have a 2080ti ( works fine and so does the 3600x on my old board).

So i have 4 ram modules tried 1 and nothing, i have tried to flash the bios, but the red led flashes for about 10 seconds, then pc powers up and it flashes again for about 10 seconds then nothing.

Any ideas?

What PSU and what RAM exactly? EZ Debug LED is on "CPU", i take it? It probably requires the newest BIOS.

The Flash BIOS Button method is very picky about the USB sticks sometimes. In fact, the old and cheap USB sticks with small capacity seem to work the best for that method, read here. It should take around 5 minutes of a certain kind of blinking for the process to complete. If it keeps blinking for longer, then it failed. If it doesn't start the certain kind of blinking or stops after a few seconds, then it also failed. So your BIOS might not be up to date yet and thus the CPU model may not yet be supported.

Also double-check to make sure you followed the method exactly:
1. Please download the latest BIOS file for your board model and extract it.
2. Rename the BIOS file to MSI.ROM, and save it to the root of your USB flash drive / USB stick (not in a subfolder). FAT32 formatting is a must for the USB flash drive.
3. Plug the USB flash drive that contains the MSI.ROM file into the Flash BIOS Port on the rear I/O panel.
4. With the PC off, press the Flash BIOS Button, and the LED starts flashing for about 4-5 minutes. If not, try a different USB stick.

Hi, thanks for the reply I have a corsair RM650, 4 sticks of 8GB Vengence LPX DDR4, 3600Mhz, i have followed this process of flash booting the bios, twice on 2 different usb sticks

You need to find a different USB stick that the board likes. It needs to flash for about 5 minutes and then it will reboot. Anything drastically different (under a minute of flashing, or over 10 minutes of flashing) and the flashing didn't work.

I have tried 5 different sticks, Theyre all formatted to FAT32, file name MSI.ROM. Put in witht he power off hold flash button for 2 secs, bios light starts flashing for 10 seconds, powers on flashed for 10 seconds then idles.

Try without any RAM. If the EZ Debug LEDs go to "DRAM" instead of "CPU", your CPU is supported. If they stay on "CPU", you need to update your BIOS first, or maybe there's another fault, but right now i suspect it's the missing BIOS support for that CPU.

Double-check that you have downloaded the correct BIOS for your board, check the board model again. Sometimes people may inadvertantly download a B450 Tomahawk BIOS for a B550 Tomahawk, or a Tomahawk MAX BIOS for a Tomahawk, things like that.

In the end, you may have to find the one USB stick that the board likes.

So ive put my 3600x back in, booted with no Ram, still saying theres a cpu error. I know this cpu is good as ive taken it out a working PC. The bios that was on the board would surely have 3600x compatability?

No need of a BIOS update with the 3600X

And if you not getting past CPU on POST you Crap out of luck, Have you tried a Second power source or have tested the PSU under load to rule it out as a Problem. You can test it for load and Voltage variation using your old board and see what you get with Furmark and Cinebench both running at same time while using HwMon to see what your load is and if voltages fluctuate.

Also test the 5900X on you old board just to make sure if you B450 Bios is up to date it should boot with no problem if no you may have to use the 3600X to update the Bios First.

I have tried tried another power supply RM, which was rinning a 3600x with the 2080ti, and plahing hames at 160fps full detail so i cant see this power supply being defective.

The 5900x wont boot on the b450 either with the updated bios. So at a pickle. B550 wont boot up with either and the b450 only boots with the 3600x.

Ive sent the b550 back today. I will let you know if there is an in issue with the board.

Seems strange no post with both and can flash it either.

AH... got the same problem with my 5900X and a B550M Mortar wifi... build today with that CPU led ON... I tried BIOS update but nothing works right now. Keep me in touch if you find something.

The only difference with you is when I boot w/o RAM error go to VRAM instead of CPU
