I've been noticing a consistent pattern of dimming since the day I got this monitor. Dimming happens on SDR mode, TrueBlack400, at 30% brightness, regardless of content's brightness.
It always gradually dims to 10-20% brightness in 1 minute span into game-related moving contents (Apex Legends, Overwatch, Genshin, Monster Hunter, Marvel Rivals). Happens to recorded footages (i.e. YT videos) too. I measured the brightness with a phone app named LUX meter.
I've tried:
I've noticed:
- Opening white or black windows restores the monitor to max brightness. (i.e. Discord/Nvidia control panel)
- Dimming occurs much later in 60Hz, much earlier in 240Hz
- Dimming does not occur on content that has less screen activity (i.e. movies)
- Dimming is prevalent and much stronger in SDR mode
- Barely warm monitor panel in SDR
The monitor is mostly fine. I just don't understand how its dimming algorithm works. Let me know if this is actually normal on all Samsung QD-OLEDs, because I haven't seen anyone reporting this specific issue. Otherwise, I will request for replacement from MSI directly.
Note: I've talked to MSI support. Their explanation (attached) makes sense, but doesn't tell me why dimming occurs on very low monitor brightness.

I've tried:
- - Reset Nvidia settings and reinstall its drivers (3060 Ti)
- - Reset monitor settings
- - Use HDR - dimming is mitigated to great extent in HDR mode. No idea why.
- - Use Peak 1000 nits
- - Turn off OLED care
- - Turn off ABSL in service menu
- - sRGB & Display P3
- - AI Vision ON OFF
- - Gsync ON OFF
