Old MSI Starforce 8826 problems

Hello. I am using the old Geforce2MX 200 MSI Starforce 8826 model and having some weird lockup problems. These problems surfaced when I updated my DirectX to 8.0 and 8.1. Games like Dungeon Siege and Max Payne locks up my computer when get into the game play parts. I read the specs for the card, and it says it supports DirectX 5 through 7. Could DirectX 8+ be causing these lockup problems? This never happened with DirectX 7, only when I installed 8.0+.
My system specs are MSI 6330 Lite, Duron 900, Sony DVD-Rom, LiteOn 32/12/40 CDRW, and a Fujitsu 20gig 7200rpm hard drive, btw. Nothing overclocked, no BIOS updates since LiveUpdate didnt find any for my vga card.

Any help, insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :))

Thanks

WingZero,

The GeForce2 Mx200 will run with Direct X 8 but is not 100% compliant, as in will not use all the features Direct X 8 offers.

Which Operating System are you using? I am guessing you are not running WinXP.

Have you tried the nVidia Reference Drivers yet?

Good Luck,

Richard

Sorry, I did forget to mention that I am using nvidia's 30.82 drivers. I tested it with older 29.** drivers and Directx 8 and got the same lockups. I noticed that games requiring and using DirectX 8/Direct3D had the lock ups, but not when using Opengl games like Quake 3. All these were tested under Windows 98 Second Edition.

Thanks in advance :)

WingZero,

When did you last install Win98SE on your system? Was it a clean install from the CABs or was it an upgade?

Also, are you running a Virus Smasher or any kind of Utilities/Tools as in Norton?

Richard

Deathstalker,
I did the whole format/clean install of Win98SE (non-upgrade) just a couple days ago. I don't use any Norton products or virus scanning software on my machine.
I installed chipset drivers, MSI Live Update, hardware drivers (monitor, nic, etc.) and then nVidia DET 30.82 followed by DX 8.1. Thats it.
In the past, I had read about some games requiring the "AGP Texture Acceleration" disabled in DirectX, but it didn't help in this case. Any ideas?

Regards,
WingZero
