This is the screenshot that lars36 is referring to:

Also, lars gave other information in that post for his issue:

ok...after looking at Myler screen shot showing his ssd is only getting 3gb/s of speed and his wd getting 6gb/s, my screen shows just the opposite, on my screen it shows wd hd on top getting only 3gb/s of speed and it shows my ssd under my wd hd getting 6gb/s...now, both my ssd and wd should read 6gb/s of speed. i don't know why wd hd doesn't show 6gb. so i guess my questions would be, i guess, 1. why doesn't my wd show 6gb/s of speed. 2. if i swapped my cables so they where in the opposite sata port on the mb would the readings be the opposite...3 gb/s for ssd and 6b/s for wd hd, which would be like Mylar screen shot and i do understand hiss ssd is 3 gb ssd...anyone?

Lars, can you please post an image of your screen?  Also, are you sure that yours in inserted in the same port as Mylar's?  Remember, there are some SATA ports that only are SATAII.

my screen shows JUST the opposite of Mylars screen...i have both the ssd and wd hd in sata ports 7 & 8....my crucial ssd does show 6 gb...my wd shows only 3 gb...my wd hd is on the top in the screen, and the ssd is on the bottom in my screen, just the opposite of Mylars screen. so i would assume if i reversed my cables on the sata III ports, my screen shot would look like Mylars, with my ssd on top and my wd hd on the bottom. i do understand there is firware up-dates for the wd hd and i wanted Mylar to comfirm whether he had to up-date his firmware to get it to show 6 gb/s. thank you for your help.

Jumper are set correctly on disk?  See link below.

http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5387&p_created=&p_cats=185&p_cv=1.185&p_pv=2.279&p_prods=227%2C279#jumper

Also, for rotational disks, 6Gb/s will not provide any additional performance.  Rotational disks cannot even saturate the 3Gb (Sata II) spec yet so don't get too excited about the WD disk showing 6Gb on the Marvell controller.

They found that there are two versions of WD1002FAEX in the market. They are with firmware version either 01.01v01 or 05.01D05. The Marvell chipset can detect SATA III (6Gb/s) for the WD1002FAEX with 05.01D05 but only 3Gb/s for WD1002FAEX with 01.01v01.
Found this in an old thread. Hope it helps. :-))

after looking at the wd bulletin board, i have one of the hd that need the firmware up-date. thanks for all your help :)

I've got a recent thread on this subject too. I think a key problem here is that although it detects the drives at 6gbs the PCIe speed is only 2.5gbs.

It's crazy as the intel ports on your board will be faster even though they are 3gbs and not 6gbs.
