...so I plugged in the old, obsolete 32 GB SSD into the free mini pci-e slot where otherwise the GPS module would be. However this hard disk is now not known to the system. Windows doesn't see it, nor does the live linux (clonezilla) that I used to reapply the OS images that I have saved over the course of the last months. Is there anything I have to do so the 32 GB SSD in the mini-pci-e slot is recognized?

Did you bother to read pox67 reply #11? No SSD in there, it was not designed to use SSD in that slot. If you need extra storage then get a suitable hi-capacity SDHC card. I don't know if SDXC works but I have a 32GB SDHC in my 110W.

I read pox67's reply, but I understand his reply as a list of things that he/she speculates that might work. But I now have confirmation from a coworker of mine (we design, develop and sell rugged industry tablet computers) that mini pci-e slots are very often implemented in such a way that only the subset of pins is wired to the rest of the system that make up usb functionality. I guess this is the case here as well.

It is interesting to know that 32 GB sdhcs work in your 110W. I have tried to make use of a 32GB sdhc with my 110W and it only recognized the gazillions of 16GB sdhc that I have, but not the only 32GB one. I reckoned that the chipset just can't use 32GB sdhcs or that this might be a driver problem. Are you sure you are using a 32GB sdhc? Anyone else who can confirm that this works? I haven't tried for more than half a year and I sort of lost my 32GB sdhc somewhere :-( so I currently cannot verify or falsify your claim.

My card is a Patriot LX SDHC 32GB (class 10) and no problem with it at all.
