[p55-cd53] Frontcase audio i/o

My frontcase audio and mic is not working. I've connected the AC'97 connector, also the other frontpanel connectors are working, its just the audio. Realtek's audio software also properly detects the line-out at the backside is connected but not the line in and out on the frontside.
I recall having had this problem before where it was easily solved by changing HD audio to AC'97 in the bios. However, I can't find that specific option in the bios of the p55-cd53

There is none because the Connectivity standard is for Intel HD Audio/Azalia only (this is basically the case for every up-to-date mainboard).

The problem is that AC'97 is more than outdated and the functions HD Audio offers cannot be mapped 1:1 to the older standard.

Disable the Automatic Front Panel Jack Detection Feature in the Realtek HD Audio Manager.

If that does not work, you need to find out the pin defination for each and every plug/wire responsible for the Front Panel Audio Ports of your Computer Case.  Otherwise, we cannot really help you.

Well I don't think that's an option for me with my limited knowledge.

What's an easier solution? Should I get a HD compatible headset?

What is not an option? Disabling the Automatic Jack Detection?  That is just a mouse click.

Or do you mean the pin definition?  Just check your case's manual or check the actual front panel audio plugs of your case (or the cables) for any markings.  If there is something on there, it is easy to write it down and it would help greatly.

A headset is a peripheral device.  The problem is the connectivity standard used to hook up your case's front panel audio ports to the mainboard.  A headset won't change anything about it.

I can't find the option to disable the Automatic Jack Detection.

As for the pin definition, I hope this picture I took from the manual helps:

Your screenshot also shows an Azalia Connector.  That one doesn't work either?

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). Also after you said this board didn't support AC'97 I switched the connectors but it still aint working.

Underneath the button for "Advanced settings" is an icon of a map, I didnt know I could click it but turned out I could and it gave me the option to disable to automatic front panel jack detection; now both the sound and the mic is working.
