First, here are the system specs:
MSI P55-GD80
Xeon X3440
2 X 2GB Kingston Hyper-X DDR3 1600
two hard disk drives
3 X GTS 450 (not SLI)
Corsair GS800
BIOS - 1.9 or 1A
Problem: after shutdowns (not restarts), the computer will not POST - not at all. It will start up properly if the system is set to the default clock. The system runs perfectly stable and fast at 3.8GHz and other OC settings 24/7 full load, but if I shut it down, woe is me when I try to restart it.
Here's what I have to do when if I shutdown and then start it to get it in to Windows:
a. reset BIOS
b. set to default clocks or...
c. select a previous overclocked setting from the Overclock Profile
d. save settings and F10
e. upon the blank (no POST) screen, hit restart anywhere from 3 to 10 times until:
1) there is a overclock failure message and I can press ALT + FX (where x is the number in Overclock Profile of an OC saved settings), or
2) the system eventually POSTs to the previous setting it was in when I shut it down
What is going on here? OH, the "OC Stepping" option of allowing the computer to step up to the desired clock once in Windows does not solve this problem. Yeah, it works, but only if I restart the system without powering down.
I am fairly certain this is not a hardware problem (other than the motherboard, perhaps!) I used all the components together in another system except with a different motherboard. The system ran at 3.8GHz and had no problem posting after shutdowns.
Do I need to RMA this sucker?
