Hello :)

im building a new pc, and my motherboard choice went down to MSI P55A-G55 and P55A-GD55.
I would like to know the difference between these two boards in terms of USB 3.0 and SATA 3 - if usb 3.0 drive is connected, will graphic card PCIexpress x16 drop down lane speed to 8x or 4x?

Thank you

No.  The primary PCI-Express interface is built into the processor.  The USB 3.0 functionality is hooked to the chipset (PCH).  They do not interfere with each other.

Regarding USB 3.0 and SATA-III, there is absolutely no difference between the two boards.

The only difference is that the P55A-GD55 has the Dr.MOS-Feature and the P55A-G55 does not.

Thank you for the answer!

What about Crossfire? PCI-Express drops down to 8x when CrossFire is used/enabled?

My general concern was about USB/SATA 3 connectivity, beacuse other MSI boards fit my needs (CD55, CD53), but i wasn't sure if putting an expansion USB 3.0 PCI card on those boards would cause primary PCI express downgrade to 8x or 4x?

Therefore, i have to wait for P55A-GD55 availabitlity in Croatia (since they're out of stock...:(

Yes.  That has to do with the PCI-Express interface of the CPU.  It is only designed for two operating modes: x16/x0 and x8/x8.  It will be like that on every P55 mainboard of this kind.

but i wasn't sure if putting an expansion USB 3.0 PCI card on those boards would cause primary PCI express downgrade to 8x or 4x?

Any PCI Express card inserted into the secondary PCI Express x16 slot (x8 lanes max.) will cause PCI Express lane bifurcation from x16/x0 to x8/x8.

PCI-Express card inserted into the black PCI-E x1 - Slots will not affect this lane distribution.

The board already supports USB 3.0.  Why an add-on USB 3.0 card?

I was thinking of USB 3.0 add-on card, because P55A-GD65 isn't available in my country, but P55-CD53 is. Therefore, i have two solutions: wait for P55A-GD55 availability or to buy CD53, CD45.

Again, thank you for the asnwer!

Unless I read the English version of the manual wrong for P55-CD53 (MS-7586), it doesn't have SATA III 6Gb/s ports. If not in a hurry, I would recommend to wait for the GD series, then no need for a USB 3.0 add-in card, & it will have SATA III.

Well, i have bought everything (i5-760, Corsair 650W, Sapphire HD 6850, Antec P193...) and i would need this motherboard as soon as possible :) i'ts the only part that is missing. There is a big shipment delay here in Croatia, so i'd have to wait for at least 2-3 weeks which is almost unecceptable.

I'm not interested in overclocking, i just want maximum stability and silence (pc is used for graphic design).
That's why i hope this MSI P55A-GD55 is a solid and durable motherboard.
Worth waiting i hope :)
