Hello ,

Afther some days of testing i come here to get some help . I have a msi p55a-gd65 board in my server and I wanne use to wake it up with a lan connection .
What are the steps I already did :

The bios have been set to allow "wake on lan"
I changed the energy settings for the 2013  in to the power section of the bios
properties from my nic set to  : allow this device to wake the computer + recive magic package to start pc ,
I also uncheckd turn off lan connection for power saving.

the wierd thing is when i turn of the server and I test the wol function within 10 min the server is starting up , when I shut down the server for a couple of hours the WOL function dos not react anymore .

is there anybody who can help me?

Hi.

When you say that you shut down the server, do you mean that you put the system into the sleep mode (S3)?

Hello,

Everynight when i go to sleep I power down the pc beceause when I put my pc in sleep mode than all the fans are still working .

When I put my system in sleep mode : screen, video card and hdd fall of but the coolingsystem stil works that is the reason why I shut down my system.

Hi,
I am trying to setup WOL on my P55A-GD65 board as well (computer running Windows 7 SP1). Unsuccesfully for the moment... So I'm glad hearing someone that managed to do it  :)
Here is what I did:

I tried configuring my NIC as well in order to (No/Yes):
[N] turn off lan connection for power saving
[Y] allow this device to wake the computer
[Y] receive magic package to start pc

But when I click OK, close the settings window, and reopen it, the check boxes appear like this (which, I guess, is not what I want):
[N] turn off lan connection for power saving
[N] allow this device to wake the computer
[Y] receive magic package to start pc

That's why I finally left the default configuration (which seems to be ok according to windows 7 help - search "wake on lan" - since WOL is activated by default on desktop machines):
[Y] turn off lan connection for power saving
[Y] allow this device to wake the computer
[Y] receive magic package to start pc

I installed a magic packet sniffer and made sure that I actually receive the magic packet.
One additional remark: when I take a look at the LEDs on my switch, when I shutdown the PC, one of the 2 LEDS (for this slot) remains turned on (unplugging the RJ-45 cable turns it off).

However I just can't find anything in the BIOS explicitly related to WOL. What BIOS version do you have (mine is 1.2 - got it from MSI Control Center utility)?
I do see the energy settings for the 2013 (disabled), but there is nothing related to networking (only see events related USB, PS2 mouse, PS2 keyboard,PCI, PCI-E, RTC alarm).
I also tried both S1 and S3 settings. None of them seem to work.

Many thanks in advance for your remarks.

On last remark concerning my previous post:
I can WOL my pc after I put my PC in sleep mode: the magic packet does awake it.
However, when I shutdown it, I can't WOL it anymore.
Do you think I am misunderstanding what WOL actually is? Is it only supposed to work on an "asleep" PC and not on a shutdown PC?

Could it be a matter of router configuration? I read (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/wol?text=1) that multicast IPs should be hard coded in the ARP table of the routers and that some routers flush the ARP table a few minutes after the computer is turned off.
Please note that I am not an expert in the domain. Your problem just remind me that.

I believe wake is from  sleep only. When you power down completely, there is nothing left in the system RAM to wake from.
