I got it two days ago, and it just wouldn't boot while Steelseries Xai mouse is connected. Before the bios screen, while those numbers appear at the lower right corner of the screen, it would just hang at "B4" and do nothing. As soon as I disconnect the device it continues booting. It's a real hassle disconnecting and connecting it after boot. I also flashed bios to 1.7 hoping it would fix it, but no improvement at all.

Seems another poster had problems with a Razar Deathadder too. Compatibility issue of some kind. Have you checked the mouse manufacturers website for updates or for others with similar symptom?

No updates of anything about that problem. Guess I'll have to open a support ticket with both of the manufacturers, and see if there's a solution.

Im having problems with my MSI P67A-GD65 mobo and the RAT7 mouse.  The mouse pointer often stops moving.  The buttons still work!  In the crazy new BIOS, when I move the mouse it just glides to the right.  I can often get it to work in Windows (sometimes it just stops working) by removing it from the mobo, then plugging it back in again.  Sometimes it takes more than one attempt.  I think it might be related to the feature that allows you to charge a mobile phone when the PC is off.  I am going to experiment with BIOS settings now....

Hi,

got the same combo (c45 + xai) and the same problem. As I read this thread i went to the msi download page and hoped to get a fixed bios. But the latest version i found there was 1.5. According to the control center tool i have the 1.9 ?!?!?!
So i opened a ticket and asked, when there will be a fix available. The reply the next day said, that they are continuously working on related updates but neither there is a new one available at the moment nor they could tell my when it will.
I wonder what version number the next one will get (2.0 or higher??) to make sure that the Live Update recognize the update in comparison to my 1.9 version.
Meanwhile i also also have to unplug and plug the mouse hoping the the port won't get broken.

Bye

Hi webstar,

Any luck with these issue, i also have an issue with my board\xai.

If there's a solution, please keep us posted.

thanks,

Do not use Live Update to flash the BIOS. >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<These ports don't wear out that quickly, don't worry.  :cheesy:

Funny thing is my live update worked just fine for flashing the bios. Though I wouldn't recommend it, for sure.

As for the mouse problems (seems lots of people are having win7 issues with "gaming" mouses). Try a typical 3 button mouse thats laying around and see if that works. I am thinking its the additional buttons the mieces (yes, mieces) have which are causing problems when booting.

It is like the gaming keyboards, the expensive eclipse keyboards (I just have a normal red backlit eclipse, not one with an LCD screen or extra buttons or anything, not a cyborg) are having problems too when booting into windows, its the additional keys (sometimes even the numpads on these expensive keyboards are seen as individual devices and therefor cause conflict). This is whats happening with the gaming mouse as well.

Hi Sjay,

Thanks for your reply....
But i can't agree with you, since i actually use an steelseries optical mouse. there's 4 buttons on it + scrollwheel....
Seems no fix to this issue....Let us wait to see if either MSI or Steelseries can get a fix to this...
Thanks for keep me updated :)

Like I said, (And you don't have to agree with me, I am not seeking that afterall just putting information out there) it is all in how the mouse is made. if you have a 4 button mouse that works, great! Its probably because that Single additional button is handled by the same controller, I am talking about expensive gaming mouses and keyboards that don't just add another button but add 6 or entire new functionalities that count as individual devices in win7 - which is what causes the conflict.

Your mouse obviously doesn't have enough buttons.

oh don't get me wrong Sjay. Of course it's always good to hear everybody's opinion, the more the better :) even for personal knowledge and to somehow open our minds to respect opinions from everyone  :)
well like you said my mouse do the work and i will not but another one until this one dies, and it's a shame is from steelseries, maybe i'll sell them all and buy a new one from another company.... i'm not going to give those bastards my money... not until they make a compatible mouse\hardware....
Once again thanks for your reply :)

hi,

sry but i think the mainboard and not the mouse has to be fixed cause for me the mouse worked fine on my previous board.

@belph >>Posting Guide<<
you don't state your current combo, even worse, you don't state your previous. Are we even talking about the same platform, i.e. P67 SB.
When every normal mouse works on a MB, the singular exception being a unique mouse, then a solution needs to be found by both the mouse manufacturer and the MB manufacturer ultimately.
A general statement of, it worked on my previous board, just adds to guesswork.
My bluetooth kit of my cellphone worked on my previous car, it doesn't work on my current car. Who is responsible

Yes, you are right. I forgot to state my system combo because i replied to the initial post in this thread and thought it would by enough to tell that i got the same combo of board and mouse. But to complete this:
- i5-2500k
- Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti
- 2x4GB DDR3 G.Skill Ripjaws CL7-7-7-21
- Corsair F120
- Win7 Home Premium
- be quiet 550W Dark power
My previous system was no sandy bridge. It was an C2D E6750 on a gigabyteboard. I'd never thought that a peripheral device would cause a problem like that. Ram or a broken hdd are obvious but not a mouse or maybe the headphone.

I agree that mouse manufacturer and the MB manufacturer have to solve the problem together. So i also contacted steelseries. I hope the engineering departments already contacted each other and probably they have localized the problem. Would be nice if the changelog of the fixed product would mention this problem when it's solved.

Hi everoyne,

As you all know i'm having the same problem too (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=147690.0), but with a different board but same mouse...
I don't think steelseries cares for their costumers.... but i'll explain better before someone misjudges me.  They just want to launch a new product (all companys want to and i understand that), they do their tests and think, ok no problems at all, we have a dead line and we want to accomplish, we make this product some high publicity, we make it big "hype", so we just sell them to costumers and even if there are bugs\problems\issues, we can find some kind of firmwares to fix them later....... People get so thrilled to buy it, they forget to search to see if there are any kind of troubles, because all you see is "this is a great mouse" or if you ask someone who plays videogames, they'll tell you "go for a xai"...
Well i think they didn't tested those mices so well. Because there are 3 major motherboard companys that i know of, Asus, Gygabite and MSI, and someone who owns a xai mouse probably also owns one of these 3. I'm not saying they should test, on all models but at least the most selled ones?
I've been searching and researching through google, and i see so many posts from costumers\forum users having this problem, no matter if it's a new hardware or even an old one (i'm having this problem on my 2 boards, my old asus and my new msi) some from back 2010 (well i just did a fast search on google and found this one: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=188263 from May 2010  :rolleyes_anim:), and if u look into steelseries page there's no updates for their last firmware since 2009-11-13......So if they are looking into this kind of problem as they say, and i remind you it's not a new issue. shouldn't be some kind of fix?

Once again sorry for my longest post and for my bad english... but this situation is.. ridiculous....an 70? mouse and all this trouble.....
i guess i'll just buy a USB 2.0 PCI card to do the experience if it's true the problem is fixed.
Once again, thank you so much for all your help:)

Hi,

@snakesoul: many thx for the last post!

Finally after i read this i also read the related links and came to the conclusion that the mouse seems to to be cause for the problem. So i have to apologize my prejustice. If i had bought the mouse after the board and encountered the boot problems i had searched and found those threads for sure.
It's a shame that despite of the fact that so many people reported this issue nothing has been done by steelseries for almost 2 years. Though i like this mouse and also bought a headset from steelseries i'm very satisfied with i will now look for another mouse cause i don't want to unplug/replug all the time.

Sry again

- Improve mouse compatibility in bios setup
MSI may have come up with a fix for you guys since the manufacturer of the mouse has been slow to react. Check out Jack's Beta BIOS thread in the OC & Mod Corner section of the forum for the latest beta BIOS. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=145403.0  :-))

Hi all,
@belph, no need to thanks mate. i think internet is a wonderfull and powerfull tool where you can learn and share opinions and thoughts  :) and forums are created to this matter, to share opinions and thought and knowledges :)

btw the way after hours of research and brain damage  X-(( i got some kind of fix if you want to hear... so i read somewhere that an pc usb card should do the trick, so today i went to a pc shop and bought one... it was 10? +\-  here's the link (http://www.conceptronic.net/site/desktopdefault.aspx?tabindex=1&tabid=212&cid=10&gid=1030&pid=C480I5_V4).
well i got home and plug it into the motherboard, and pluged the mouse on it and i pressed the power button...and i crossfingered lol... so the boot went normal, and fast as usual when you're using another mouse and i thought well it's fixed.... but then.... it frooze...so did my veins, my heart and brain.... just before loading windows this little sucker had to freeze the OS loading just for some 10 secs max. ... but there's a point to that i think... and here's my question\doubts, the pci sound card boots, i guess, just before windows, i can hear some kind of "clicks" (btw it's an asus xonar dx), so if the usb sound card is plugged into the motherboard, and have a "slow" boot, so it's possible the usb card can also "boot" just before win loading?

Is there a way to make it "boot" earlier?

My final thoughts:

So if you want some kind of fix and make your steelseries xai to work, this is the fix for me, not mine because someone already discovered this but i didn't knew if it was successful or not...

So it's cheaper than buying a new mouse? yes it is...is it acceptable? well not for me and shouldn't be for Steelseries, but after spending almost 70? on a new mouse, "the lost hours" reading and searching instead of enjoying my brand new pc, i think it's the only way if you want to enjoy this mouse.
the other option? well just sell it, returned to the shop if you can or just put it somewhere you can't see it :p because if you're unlucky as i was you can't properly enjoy your mouse and pc because of unplug\plug every single time you want to use your pc.....

Thanks for reading, sorry for the long post.
