P67A-GD65 Memory and APS

Hi.. I've installed GSkill F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM, which is listed for the this Mobo (P67A-GD65). In both Cupid CPU Z and CC, shows
timings as 9-9-9-28-2T with bios set to AUTO, XMP disabled. The specs on the dimms is 8-8-8-24, and shows this in the XMP
settings in Bios. When XMP is enabled, CPU-Z, CC show 9-9-10-10-29. As well when XMP enabled, APS DISABLES.
To get the mem to run to specs, I have to manually set it in Advanced timings, which again disables APS.

My question being, is this a bios issue or memory ??

IMHO, it is more a problem with RAM manufacturers using 'off the wall' non standard SPD profiles on their products. A BIOS revision can sometimes be developed to improve RAM compatibility, but that takes time & lots of testing, & the number of RAM models & variations is enormous.

With your specific RAM, I would try with X.M.P. disabled, RAM speed set to 1600, DRAM Mode set to 'Link', Advanced Timings set to 8 8 8 24, try with CR 1 or at 2, DRAM V. 1.55v's. If this fails, try RAM speed 1333, 9 9 9 24, tRFC 74-88, CR 1 or 2, DRAM V. 1.50v's. Without researching deeper or seeing your CPU-Z SPD Tab screenshot, you may have to set 9 10 9 27 at 1600 RAM speed with even looser tRFC. Not trying to soap box here, but RAM with standard SPD profiles are usually less prone to have these problems when matched to the platforms CPU IMC native supported speed. Default for this particular Sandy Bridge platform is not 1600 with timings of 8 8 8 24. :-))

Thanks for the reply. Prior to my first post I did manually set the mem to the rated specs, 8-8-8-24 @ 1.5v and ran memtest 86, it passed.
The remaining question is: Why when XMP is enabled, (and) or when I make manual changes to the timings, when APS is enabled
in bios, ( and I do not disable it ), I reboot to win7 go to CC/green power - it shows APS disabled.

Svid runs and drops to phase 1, but all LEDs stay lit. I was curious as to how changing the dimm timing causes APS to disable.
