Hi,
Thought id share this with you all............im certain it will help a lot of you!!!!
After 10 days off random rebooting/resetting, crashing system, I think ive finally nailed it...
i7 2600k with 8gb (4x2gb) ram hyperx blu 1600, my sys was so erractic, it would reset anywere, including bios, loading, or in windows,
sometimes even in a loop at start up forever until hard reset
After testing with a different 700 / 750watt psu, same problem, also testing ram timings/speeds/slots, same results! ati 5770 and a older 3450, same results! i have been thru the whole lot (18yrs engineer here) I have never come across such erratic behaviour before?!!? the system has been stripped twice, board checked for dry joints, oversolder etc, temps are fine.
As a last resort, i checked the FP header switches, the FP riser included with this board is useless, (pins dodgy, fall out, dont connect properly) wire your pwr/rst/led leads etc DIRECT to the board, NOT the included riser!!!!! Also, the big one was using the JUSB2, i had my normal run of the mill 3.5" card reader slotted in....i removed it, and voila! the system no longer hangs at startup, started instantly (it would take 10 secs just to bring the main bios screen up) i replugged the jusb2 back in, and problems started again! I havent disabled usb3.0 in the bios, just be careful what you connect to it, its VERY VERY temperamental, and b4 you ask, the card reader works fine in my older athlon and p4 bench systems!
So in short, anyone having the MSI P67 boards with the usual resetting crashing probs, focus your attention on the USB hardware side, i think the problem resides there, it did for me after 10 days of stripping and testing. Now my sys has been running 6hrs+ sweet at 4ghz o/c and the ram running stably at ddr1600@1.65volts (its kingston hyperx blu, rated 1.65-1.9v!) before i could barely get seconds or even a install going!!! Im not saying its a 100% fix, but this worked perfect for me, I hope it can for you.
I hope this helps, let me know!!
