I will upload the latest BETA BIOS FILES for P6N SLI Platinum and P6N SLI(-FI) because they might be useful for people that like to try Wolfdale CPUs on these boards.

Changelogs

A7350nms.162 [P6N Platinum] // A7350nms.252 [P6N SLI(-FI)]]

-Add Micro Code to support Intel 45nm CPU and Wolfdale CPU.
(Do not Support Yorkfield CPU! Such: QX9650,QX9550,QX9450 and so on)

A7350nms.163 [P6N Platinum] // A7350nms.253 [P6N SLI(-FI)]

- Update CPU,EIST,Ratio Module to support Intel 45nm CPU.

-----------------

NOTE: The Support-Status for Wolfdale-CPUs is still noted as "Under Testing".  Use these BIOS Files at your own risk!  There is no guarantee that they will work properly yet.  If anything goes wrong, please don't start crying here.

In any case, please use the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing Tool . The link to the tool can be found in the last thread above.

[Files removed for now, because there seem to be no positive feedbacks about E8x00 support.]

Hi,

State of the art support..it must be said!

I will try  & report about it tomorrow !

Thanks for your efforts so far!

Just don't forget what I said above:  Flash at your own risk!

In any case, keep us posted about your progress.  If there are any problems, I will remove the files.

Hi,

I flashed my bios with this version:

The flash went ok...but unfortunally still the same issue: after pluging the E8500 it will not post.....
see also: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=114548.0

It still works with the E6600

Okay, thanks for your feedback.  I can't do much more for you at the moment.  I guess you have to wait and hope that a future BIOS release will support your E8500.  The x9.5 divider may be the main problem here.

I'll be trying out the A7350nms.253 [P6N SLI(-FI)]  right now for my Xeon e3110 (aka:e8400) . With bios 2.4 it was a no go .

Report back later .

*edit/update*

No go ! Nada . :(  No  beeps , no screen , only power to the system , no boot what-so-ever . (but does boot with my e6420 back in)

I've just update my P6N SLI Platinum with this 1.6b bios.
And now I've to service my MB.
It's all beggin when I try to use new E8200 cpu.
I flash bios with E2160 and replace the cpu. After this the won't boot up.
It's even won't boot with E2160 :(

So be carefull !!

It doesn't sound like a BIOS problem that you can't boot with your E2160 after switching CPUs again.  Have you cleared CMOS with main A/C power cord removed from PSU after re-installing your E2160?

I've done everything You mentioned. Also I remove the cooling fan and put the cpu one more time :).
Somehow the MB is dead :D but tommorow I check this once again in service with new cpu, gpu and memory.

OT
All this bios issues (with Wolfdale support) make me think about changing the MSI board and take one from other manufacturer which is giving me MB supporting E8x00 from a long time. Thats sad cause I'm using MSI boards from six or seven years and the problems starts with i955x platinum

Note that the BIOS Files posted in this thread have BETA status.  There is no official support for Wolfdale CPUs on neither P6N SLI Platinum nor P6N SLI-(FI) at this point.  I uploaded these files for user who are aware of the risks of flashing un-official BIOS releases.  However, since nobody seemed to have any success getting an E8x00 processor to work with these BETAs I will remove them for now.

I knew about the beta status before I start to update.
I take the risk and here I am :)
Weirdest thing is that some ppl start the E8x00 cpu's on this boards.
I have one question. How hard is to make bios that support Wolfdale family ?? Note that some some Yorkfield cpu's are currently supported !!
Almost everyone around allready have bios in their nv650i/680i boards that support those cpu's.
Now I'm hopeless and sad

While I hadn't had any luck with the BETA BIOS's, please don't stop posting them. :) *I*, at least, appreciate it, and look forward to seeing a beta posted where I can go, "Holy crap, it worked!" :)

I'm with you on that.

Is there a later version of the Beta BIOS for the P6N SLi-FI available that we might have a go at? Or is the release of the final version of the BIOS for these boards imminent?

Ok, so this is the reply I got from the MSI support guys:

Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support.

P6N SLI motherboard with the beta BIOS A7350nms.253 can support all the 5 Core2 Duo Wolfdale processors listed in our CPU Support, but now we have not released it.

Best regards,
MSI Technical Support Team

Not much help, but at least it's some sort of confirmation that there will be a BIOS released at some point that will enable support for the Wolfdales on our motherboards.

One thing I find strange though is that they say the A7350nms.253 beta supports the Wolfdale chips, but that's the one Jack posted earlier and nobody had any luck with it...

Edit. Just noticed that it looks like only stereo55 tried out the A7350nms.253 beta but with a Xeon chip which might explain why it didn't work for him. The other guys all seem to have the P6N SLi Platinum boards and were having trouble with the A7350nms.163 BIOS.

Update 2. Just got a link to the beta bios from the tech support guys, so I'll be trying it out as soon as I get home from work today.
