SYS: Windows 11 Home x64 Ver. 10.0.22631

About 7/10 times the pc wakes up normally from sleep mode, during which red and yellow light on motherboard (CPU, RAM) flash. 3/10 times the lights light up for about 30 seconds, after which they turn off about the same time. After this only black screen, USB devices get power (leds on mouse light up, not on keyboard) but no other connection. Have waited for over 30 minutes, no change. Always gets fixed by forced shutoff via holding down the power button, after this boots up to saved state (previous applications open etc.) No problems on regular startup.

Worked normally for about a year, problem started a few months ago suddenly. Didn't disconnect or open up the PC / download any software / do anything else notable which could have caused system change. All temps during benchmarks normal and no problems during running. PC has never crashed etc.

List of things that have not fixed the problem:

Updated BIOS
Reset BIOS settings through BIOS menu, haven't cleared CMOS with jumping
Updated GPU drivers
Updated Windows from 10 to 11
Reset Windows power settings through troubleshooting
Turned off fast startup
Unplugged and reconnected PSU (also removed and reconnected GPU, didn't try to boot without it)
RAM are in slots A2 and B2 per the manual, as they have always been

Not a huge problem, but very annoying since I primarily keep PC in sleep mode. Also have to think that constant forced shutoff doesn't do the PC any favors. Any thoughts on possible fixes? Could clearing CMOS have any other effect than resetting through the BIOS menu does?

I have the same issue. PC cannot wake up from any sleep mode, shutdown, or hibernation. I have to switch off the psu and turn it back on to start the pc again. I have the MSI PRO B650-S WIFI with the 9800X3D. I have the latest bios as well

Have anyone solved this problem yet?

I have the same problem.
When I try to wake my PC from sleep , standby, or hibernate, pressing any key on the keyboard or moving the mouse causes the RGB lights on these turn on for about one second and then off. The fans in my computer case start spinning , but the monitor doesn't get a signal. The motherboard debug shows yellow and red lights . Pressing the power button on the case instead of waking it with the keyboard or mouse leads to the same outcome . I have to hold the power button on the case and then the computer reboot the whole system to get out of this problem.

My own issue with S3 Resume issue has been resolved.

The motherboard is an MSI X670E Carbon Wifi (manufactured December 2023) that came with BIOS E7D70AMS.1G1 (2024/4/15).
The CPU is an AMD 7900X.

I purchased all of the components (PSU, CPU, RAM, NVMe and motherboard) from a single vendor and they allowed all of them to be returned under a single RMA.

They found that the MSI X670E Carbon Wifi and AMD 7900X were at fault.

It could be that I was unlucky to have received 2 faulty components but I leave you to draw your own conclusions.

A few weeks after completing the system it started to BSoD at various times. This could be after many hours of use or sometimes only 20 minutes.
It took a while for me to realise that the BSoD only occurred after resuming from S3 Sleep.

Shortly after contacting MSI (it took 7 days to receive a reply), BIOS E7D70AMS.1J1 was posted (2024/07/10) so I flashed it. It did not fix the issue.

The system was now failing to resume from S3 Sleep. The debug code 11 (or 00) was shown and did not progress.

When testing multiple S3 Sleep/Wake cycles it might resume correctly one time (very rarely) and remain stable for the duration of 8-12 hours afterwards so
BIOS E7D70AMS.1J1 affected some change.

Despite the S3 issue the system was otherwise 100% stable and showed no signs of any hardware fault when running MemTest86 or Prime95.
Note that the system was able to resume from S4 Hibernation correctly.

With the replacement components the system now resumes from S3 Sleep without issue.

If you have the same issue and are still in warranty I recommend that you consider raising an RMA for your parts.
So which component replaced solved the issue? I just replaced motherboard but S3 Sleep still not working, should I try replacing CPU?

I think this issue came from CPU failure, in my case I replaced all hardware components except CPU for now, S3 sleep still not working. AMD sucks!

At first the MSI X670E Carbon Wifi was declared as being faulty and I was expecting the parts to be returned.
After several days the repair log showed that with a new motherboard the fault was still present.
They then replaced the AMD 7900X and the issue was fixed.
Did a CPU fault cause a failure of the motherboard or vice versa? I don't know.
I was lucky enough to have bought all the parts from the same vendor and they were still under warranty.

I have the same issue. I’m using ryzen 7700. Msi b650 pro a WiFi. Ram 6000. At the beginning it was just won’t wake up from sleep sometimes. Now it won’t wake up at all. Fans work but nothing happens. And recently it started not booting even when turning on normally. Red and yellow light comes up and stays up. I have to unplug and hold power button for a while. after that it works fine.

Lowering the VDDIO voltage might fix the issue:
When enabling EXPO, then VDDIO gets set to 1.4 Volt. Lowering it down to 1.35 Volt might fix your issue.
At least this is what fixed the warm restart issue for me.

Had similar issues with sleep mode randomly with my Kingston 64GB OC with XMP to 6000 (z690 Tomahawk).
When replacing the Kingston (normally CL36 38 38 ... even stable at 6000 with 30 36 36 1.3V) with a Patriot 96GB 6400 Cl32 Kit (also at 30 36 36 1.3V), issue completely dissapeared -> 0 issues anymore.

-> seems to be a 100% RAM related issue - and surely could be simply linked to to tough timings established within XMP EXPO Profiles by manufacturers (as others mentioned issue gone by dissabling XMP/ EXPO) -> possibly Patriot XMP timings are that tad more conservative to survive sleep mode vs. Kingstons (by far the faster modules with 15% lower latency in my case, even though Patriot is 6400 rated but only running stable up to 6000 in my board - board design limitation...)

One person in another thread mentioned could be to tensioned trfc timings - and checking back the logs indeed Patriot running stable 6000 with trfc 680 in my case, while Kingston totally stable in all crazy testing as well despite "sleep mode" with 480 set by XMP in system only

-> worth trying to set trfc more relaxed for those with issues - good luck and maybe come back in case it worked with a rough percentage of trfc been lowered in cases of success

Good luck!

PS: runing my system also manually undervolted, to keep my 13600 cool <- might contribute to sleep mode issues (but no intention to test with auto high Intel Voltages to find any potential relations, as system is actually 100% stable with sleep and undervolting...)

I had the same situation, my spec: X670E GAMING PLUS WIFI + 7800X3D + 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL30 IRDM GOODRAM.
My PC did not wake up from sleep mode, and was losing GPU drivers.
Turning on and off seetings - EXPO, PBO, memory context restore - no effect (black screen after sleep), however IGPU work fine.
Finally i decided to downgrade bios to lates stabile 7E16v1B, and that solve a problem.
Maybe the problem is actually in AGESA.
Now i have AGESA 1.2.0.3c, 0 problems.
Previously 1.2.0.3e, 1.2.0.3g, and a known issue.

I think you could be right, on my MAG B650M Mortar Wifi, I had zero sleep issues on older AGESA 1.2.0.3c bios a few versions back, but since trying the new later ones... sleep issues have returned, to a point now I just shut PC down. I now have EXPO disabled as system was just unstable.
Sad that newer versions are just causing more issues than fixing.

Yes. Older BIOS versions with the 1.0.0.7 AGESA were the most successful for me when it comes to waking from sleep. Now, it never works and always shut down.

As to an used old motherboard, mostly are hardware components (capacitors, etc) worn out and do not achieve their expected parameters.

My old hero MSI MortarMax is 6 years old. Now, it will reboot by itself and does not overclock the RAM any more.

Just installed it, 7D76vAN5(Beta version) Release date: 2026-01-29, on B650M MAG Mortar WIFI.
Same issue. Unable to resume from sleep.
Have a smart power plug to measure power consumption, when pc is on and running it consumes about 67W at idle.
Put pc into sleep, try to wake it up a couple minutes later, it powers up, RGB lights on, fans spin up, but monitors stay asleep and pc only consumes 45W, so it seems something isnt powering up correctly within systm.
PC remains unresponsive, monitors blank, have to hard shutdown with power button to get back to Windows.

Thanks for trying it out. Yeah, I gave up on sleep a long time ago.

I hear you.
Sadly the lack of support and progress on something so fundamental like the BIOS and its basic functionality is disappointing.

MSI, if you're reading this.... BIOS updates being in beta for 6 months, with the user base being the guinea pigs/test base is a bad look. It's 2026 and still cant get basic sleep and resume working. My MSI hardware (MSI KT6 Delta) going back 20yrs or so ago was great, didn't skip a beat, so for a new build I thought it'd be good sticking with MSI.
However now, after every update, I'm waiting/expecting something to break and having to do hours of troubleshooting/rollbacks etc just to get system back to some basic functionality again. Highlighted features of motherboard such as EXPO I have to keep disabled, to ensure a level of stability.
Nobody wants to pay good money for clunky hardware, software riddled with bugs and waste time resolving issues, but this has been my case.
As a professional tech in the space for 25 years, and 30 years on PC/Windows, this is the experience which finally makes me switch to Mac for daily reliable PC use.

Anyone else reading this, don't waste your time or money on MSI hardware, its no longer what it used to be.

Hello, new user who was searching for this issue for a while since I build my computer. Somewhere along the way a year ago it stopped waking up from sleep. It can wake up, but I would say 1 out of 3 times it does, the rest it turns on, fans spin, but no signal or no input from the keyboard/mouse. I noticed that when this happens I see a red and an orange light turn on the motherboard (CPU/RAM) which prompted me to look again for solutions as I previously thought it was my GPU but I had replaced it a few months ago. My only solution now is turning off the PC at night which is a bummer as I like to just click and continue working.
A bit disappointing that this is the solution for now. I am on the latest BIOS, as I understand going back to a year-old BIOS is not viable either? Not too computer savvy so don't want to mess something up.
This is on a MSI 670P-WIFI motherboard. I too, tried most of the possible solutions here. I also am inclined to think this is BIOS voltage issue/RAM.

Just a shame, I went for a more expensive motherboard when I think a cheaper one would have given me the ability to sleep my PC. If anyone has a solution that worked, please let me know
