I have a MSI KT3 Ultra m/board and my question is,can anyone tell the best pci slots to install my pci cards,EG sound,modem and video capture cards?My main reason for asking is I'm running WIN XP and some games will only run with sound disabled so I think there is a conflict somewhere but I'm not sure.I have a soundblaster live, all the latest drivers but still can't get some games to run.

No they didn't run with win98 either and xp is a fresh install.When I tried to run them in win98 the game kept coming up with a page fault in dplayerx.dll but the game ran fine on a mates pc so it's not the disk.It has me totally baffled.

Hi,

Have you disabled the onboard sound???
Did you stick the SBLive into PCI-slot3???

Did you run your system with BIOS-default settings??? No other settings changed except disabling the onboard sound?

Yes onboard sound is disabled.does the sound card have to be in slot 3 if so is that the 3rd from the top or bottom,also i've made no other changes to the bios other than disable sound.Sound card works fine with most games.

I solved a lot of problems by moving the SB Live card from slot two to slot three. I was having problems in MOHAA and Unreal Tournament where the screen would freeze and the sound would loop. Since moving the card I havn't experianced this.
Slot's are numbered starting at the one next to the AGP slot. You know who probably has a lot of info on the SB Live card is Mausus. I think she still uses one and is quite knowledgeable on the subject.

Thanks for the help guys.Can anyone tell me the best slots for my other cards?I have a video capture ,scisii and internal modem,any help appreciated.
