PCIe bug with M2_1 slot on X870E Tomahawk

So, the M.2_1 slot keeps reverting to PCIe 1 x 4 on a cold boot, sometimes just a reboot from within Windows. Manually setting it to Gen 4 or 5 within the BIOS will get it to run full speed until the next shut down/cold boot, then it's back to 1 x 4 again. Basically, I have to keep switching between gen 4 and 5 setting on every boot or it's stuck at 1 x 4. Auto is also broken. Samsung 990 Evo Plus 1TB.

I've seen another user on Reddit with the exact same issue. Same board, different drive. Anyone using this board, check your drive speed!

With beta version BIOS from one of the threads here on Corsair MP700 ELITE in RAID 1 with M2_1 on manual Gen5 NOT Auto I get this:
NVMe-Raid1-PCIE-5.0.png

I tried M2_1 on Auto and at times went back to Gen3. So i decided to set it manually on Gen5, so now it - seems - to be steady by surviving reboots and sleeps. Also, I disabled USB for M2_2. I don't need that.

Agreed. The problem is 100% random and happens on any power cycle (restart, cold boot, wake from sleep). I can go five times in a row in any scenario, or in a stair-step fashion of x1, x2, x3, etc. Usually within five restarts though I can get it back to optimal speed if it did not land on it the first boot.

I sent a message to Gamer's Nexus today pointing out the problem. Maybe they will pickup on this if enough people complain. I also agree that many users here are probably unaware they even have a problem as not everyone is an enthusiast that likes to benchmark our systems like probably the majority on these forums.
Was it ever fixed on the X670E boards?

I never owned one of those, so I was unaware of any issues. In fact, this is my first MSI board I've purchased. Normally I've used Gigabyte or Asus in my builds. Regretting the choice now.
I feel you. Normally i deal with Dell products, and in that world NVMe's speed issues like these are non-existent.

Anyone try the 7E59v2A5 bios for the X870E Tomahawk yet?

Was just to ask myself...

Description:
- AGESA ComboAm5 1.2.0.3b Patch C released.
- The fixed USB keyboard and mouse do not function in the F11 boot menu when the system is in CSM mode.

No mention of nvme speed. Who dares to try ?

Hey guys ! Here's my contribution :

Board : MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI
BIOS version : 7E59v2A4

bench 3 : the ssd was in M.2_1 and running PCIe gen 1 x 4
bench 2 : the ssd was in M.2_2 and running PCIe gen 5 x 2
bench 1 : the ssd was in M.2_2 and running PCIe gen 5 x 4 with M.2_2 USB sharing deactivated in BIOS

Thank you guys for the help and o7 M.2_1

I updated my x870e to 7E59v2A5 and is running fine with a T705 (with integrated heatsink) at PCIe 5.0 x4 speeds. Been 24 hours, have performed multiple cold and warm starts and comes up each time as expected.
Speeds seem to be good, but I did manage to push the temperature up to 75°C on the drive.

24hrs no where near enough to say anything substantial. You can browse back bunch of people being thrilled with the latest BIOS release only to be disappointed later

I contacted MSI technical support. I asked them if the new A50 BIOS included the M2_1 port fix. This was their response:
"Dear customer,Yes, according to the information we have, version 7E59v2A5 fixes the M2_1 port issue.Thank you."

Well I was all but set on ordering the X870E Edge Ti, as it seems to be pretty much the only decent level board in white that doesn't shaft the primary GPU slot when you add more M.2 drives; but this drive speed issue is a bit of a headache.

Genuinely hope to see some more good reports on these newest BIOSes, as this sort of level of bug shouldn't be a thing, but at least they seem to be rolling out fixes now.

Makes sense now why this board was in a bundle package discounted at Microcenter. They knew that MSI has support and QA issues with their products.
The truth is that all manufacturers have problems with these chipsets. If you don't like MSI, try your luck with ASUS or GIgabyte. They even burn processors due to incorrect voltages due to errors in the bios. With MSI, at least for now, there is no damage to the hardware.

I was actually wondering if that is why they pulled the tomahawk BIOS. One theory is that this m.2 issue is related to the power saving features not correctly turning everything back to its normal state. So if their fix did something to force the board to not drop the voltages maybe they are concerned their update will cause similar CPU damaging issues. This is all just meaningless speculation, anyway. I still don't understand why tech companies are so afraid of transparency. so much more good will could be made here if they just told us wtf is going on and why its taking so long. Because when they say nothing, it just seems like they dont give a [***CENSORED***] and are not devoting any resources to it.
