So, the M.2_1 slot keeps reverting to PCIe 1 x 4 on a cold boot, sometimes just a reboot from within Windows. Manually setting it to Gen 4 or 5 within the BIOS will get it to run full speed until the next shut down/cold boot, then it's back to 1 x 4 again. Basically, I have to keep switching between gen 4 and 5 setting on every boot or it's stuck at 1 x 4. Auto is also broken. Samsung 990 Evo Plus 1TB.

I've seen another user on Reddit with the exact same issue. Same board, different drive. Anyone using this board, check your drive speed!

Oh wow I had no clue. Would be helpful for someone to include the board name in the thread's subject so people know this info for the future
I mean the thread's name is literally "PCIe bug with M2_1 slot on X870E Tomahawk". Now that the issues are almost resolved for us, the topic has been stormed by Godlike users. Maybe they should open their own thread instead of hijacking ours ?

I'm glad you where here to tell me this news as I wouldn't have ever known. Keep up the good work

So I got another response today from my MSI support agent. I specifically pointed out that others have done the RMA on the Godlike and are still having the issue. Here is a copy/paste of what he said:
"If the board is sent to MSI under warranty, issue will be resolved by our technicians. Unfortunately, we do not have BIOS fix that we can provide for this board."

They are very reluctant to give any information on how the RMA is fixing the issue. I created a thread a while back asking who has RMA'd their board and the results they got, but it never got any traction. This is going to be some pretty key information if we decide to take legal action.

Thread is here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?...heir-x870e-godlike-for-the-m2_1-issue.412108/
Just got my Godlike X870E motherboard back from RMA 4 days ago (the DDIII went black and M.2_1 slot drops to Gen1 speeds after cold boot/waking).

My MOBO was in like new condition when I sent it in, no scratches or anything. I received back the same MOBO but all of the screens are now COVERED in scratches.

The DDIII is working again, but M.2_1 slot still drops speeds.

So friggen aggravating, idk what to do at this point, MSI has not responded to any of my emails since getting it back from RMA either.

I've never had this many issues with a motherboard, especially the most expensive X870E MOBO available...

Just goes to show their level of care towards their customers. That is just absolutely ridiculous. It's on par with taking your car into the dealership for a service and getting it back with scratches all over...nobody would settle for that kind of behavior/service, so why would this be any different.

I agree, this thread has become very messy with non Tomahawk issues, especially the Godlike.

that's because the 2 boards share the same chip set and have the exact same issues. It is also why a bunch of people with tomahawk boards have "hijacked" the DD3 issues thread. also... its not like it's exactly off topic discussing the exact same issue and doesn't matter cause MSI isn't paying much attention to this thread either. really just complaining about it makes it even more messy ;-) love the discussion though

In fact, MSI specified that the M2_1 port issues "did not have the same cause between the Tomahawk and the Godlike." They also clarified that unlike the Tomahawk, "it was impossible to solve this problem by updating the bios in the case of the Godlike.", which may be bullshit of course. This is mentioned several times on the thread by Godlike users who have contacted MSI about this, I'll let you look it up.
So no, according to MSI they don't have the exact same issues.

I haven't seen a single post or notice FROM MSI. Only posts from users describing what someone from MSI has told them. Pardon me for not taking 2nd hand references as full on fact especially when I have seen many different things been posted about the many different things MSI has "said". there may indeed be a "technical" difference in the code/hardware between the issues. but the issue itself and what is happening is pretty much the same or extremely similar. You are very welcome to be pedantic about this all you want. hasn't really changed anything going on here has it?

At this point what does it matter to you? If you have the Tomahawk, and your problem has been solved, then why even watch this thread? Nobody at the time figured that the two motherboards issues were mutually exclusive, because they both share the X870E platform, and were both having the exact same issue. That is why there are not two separate threads! Additionally, there are probably 50-1 Tomahawk vs. Godlike customers, and we ALL want our stuff working right! Stop picking fly $&!% out of pepper and trying to be combative about who is posting in the thread which shares a mutual issue.

yeah but they also said to RMA the board when there is no fix or new board revisions.
Supp Reps don't necessarily know very much

Does it with an MSI SSD, so the brand seems to have nothing to do with it, setting the PCIE incorrectly and it is also random if it will happen or not
it can boot at 1x4 or at 3x4 or 4x4
And ye my board is fully loaded with 7 M.2 drives

Hey friend, any news? Since you're a global mod and also have reproduced our issues, seems you might be our best shot of getting a fix. Did you try an RMA?

i think i found the solution with the issue ,there is no issue with x870 with all nvme slot it has lane sharing, we need to buy x870e if we need to use all the nvme slot without perf hit :)

Got my MB after a month, seems that they updated/fixed something? I didn't get any info on what they did.
Maybe one of the latest bioses fixes the issues like for tomahawk..
But I'm not getting PCIe1 anymore, however I'm getting pcie3 but rarely, was able to reproduce it in 1/10 runs.

Officially available the latest bios (7E51v1A6 - AGESA PI-1.2.0.3e), before I buy Tomahawk, can somebody please confirm if the PCIe bug has already been solved by MSI? Thank you very much for your feedback.

A39 released for the Godlike this morning. As usual, we are the last in the chain to get an updated BIOS. Who's going to be the Gunia pig this time considering the A36 fiasco....?
