On some MotherBoards (more so with Intel chipsets), the AGP voltage regulation between the card and MoBo can be messed up when you install a new Gf4 or some Gf3.
At AGP2x(3.3v) the card will work fine, but at AGP4x(1.3v) the card will regulate itself still at 3.3v and you will have trouble.
As the current used in Gf4 is much greater and more finicky than older cards a good PSU is optimal.
Also computers with a big PSU can sometimes solve this by get a smaller PSU so the AGP will run at a smaller voltage.
For a card that won't regulate properley, Bios update can help, or adding more capisitors
MoBo update can help also, so you can set the AGP driving value more precise(be careful! especially if u O/C card)
But first get the card going by setting AGP at 2x then work from there. You can even try Underclocking the CPU as well with smaller voltage to trick the card into using a smaller voltage. (Keeps CPU cool as well
)
Out of all the Gf4 released the MSI cards are in the top 5 for less trouble (good BIOS release??) as oppossed to a company that don't release updates, who have to rely on old generic BIOS updates.(and no I don't work for them)
Please post here if you have any Updates to this or if my news is old news.
A question I have is Can this be the same with an MX card.
