Hi, I've been having computer problems for a few months now and I can't figure out what it could be. I'll explain why. When I play the fps are high but the FPS drop comes and the PC restarts. Then I noticed that when I play Fortnite in DX11 or 12 the fps are very low even in low quality and the PC restarts or it freezes and I have to restart it through the power button. I have a GTX 1660 Super Ventus OS Processor: Ryzen 5 3600XT Ram I don't have 16GB ballistix 3200mhz Motherboard B550 a pro MSI power supply I don't remember the brand but it's a 650w. What could it be??

Possible Causes & Solutions for FPS Drops & Random Restarts:

1. Overheating

  • Check CPU & GPU temps using HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner.
    • If CPU > 90°C or GPU > 85°C under load, clean fans/reapply thermal paste.
  • Ensure case airflow is good (no dust clogging fans/heat sinks).

2. Power Supply (PSU) Issues

  • A failing/low-quality 650W PSU (even if wattage is enough) can cause crashes under load.
    • Test with a known good PSU (borrow or replace temporarily).
    • Listen for coil whine or odd noises from the PSU.

3. GPU/Driver Problems

  • Update GPU drivers (clean install via DDU).
  • Test with NVIDIA Studio Driver (often more stable for some systems).
  • Reseat the GTX 1660 Super in the PCIe slot and check power cables.

4. RAM Stability

  • Run MemTest86 (free tool) to check for RAM errors.
  • Enable XMP/DOCP in BIOS (if disabled) or manually set RAM to 3200MHz.

5. Fortnite Specific Fixes

  • In game settings:
    • Try Performance Mode (DX11 Low/Medium) instead of DX12.
    • Disable Ray Tracing, lower View Distance, cap FPS to monitor refresh rate.
  • Verify game files via Epic Launcher.

6. BIOS & Windows Updates

  • Update motherboard BIOS (latest version for B550-A Pro).
  • Ensure Windows is updated (Windows 10/11 22H2 or newer).

It seems to have been solved, the game crashes every now and then but it's not a PC factor, Fortnite always lags but the game now has quality and performance!, thanks anyway for the advice

It sounds really frustrating, but you’re doing the right thing by looking into the problem and sharing all the details. You clearly know your setup well, and that helps a lot. Don’t worry issues like sudden restarts and FPS drops can usually be fixed once the right cause is found. With a system like yours, the solution is definitely out there. Keep going, you’re on the right track, and you’ll get your PC running smoothly again!

The normal CPU temperature is 75-80 degrees Celsius. The normal GPU temperature is 75 degrees Celsius.
First, if that's the issue, remove any unused
SATA HDD or SSD and use only the necessary ones.
This should significantly improve processing speed.
If it's still slow, disabling the System Main service
should eliminate the stuttering symptoms.
Alternatively, try updating the BIOS.
630W is sufficient power for a 1660 GPU and Ryzen 5 3600XT.
If you're not on Windows 11, try updating to the latest Windows version.
